Trump set to confront his impeachment foes

Source: The Hill

After sitting impatiently on the sidelines for months, President Trump on Tuesday night will finally get a chance to address — face to face — the House Democrats who impeached him and the senators who will soon vote on whether to end his presidency.

...

But some senators are nonetheless predicting Trump will take an early victory lap during Tuesday’s speech.

“I expect that he’s going to be over the top. I would be surprised if he wasn’t bombastic and self-congratulatory. I would be surprised if he didn’t take potshots at the press and Democrats and impeachment managers,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) told reporters Monday during a break from the impeachment trial. “My expectations are so low these days that I’m expecting the worst.”

...

When Trump addresses the joint session of Congress, he’ll be standing in front of Republicans like Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and Mitt Romney (Utah), who both crossed the aisle in Democrats’ failed push to subpoena witnesses in the impeachment trial. Other Senate Republicans, including Sens. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) and Marco Rubio (Fla.), have voiced concerns with Trump’s dealings with Ukraine but said voters — not the Senate — should decide whether to oust him from office.

One thing most Republican lawmakers agree on: Trump should steer clear of any talk of impeachment during his prime-time address.

The sound of his voice makes me nauseous. Unless of course, Speaker Pelosi is going to whack him with her gavel.

I am at a point where anything from him makes me want to puke. I hate it when MSNBC talks about him and then puts his picture on the screen, as if we don't know who they are talking about, or we haven't seen his face before. I wish they would stop doing that. I sent a tweet about it to Rachel, I doubt she, or her stuff even saw it.

Trump going off script would be the worst for him. Hatred, vindictiveness, anger, retaliation. That is what will happen. There is no "presidential" reservoir to draw upon. Channeling Uncle Adolf ....

If the roles were reversed, you know damn well that the CONS would certainly do so. Another nice touch would be to stand en masse and turn their backs to him. Also, it would be really inspirational to have our own Joe Wilson yelling "You Lie" when the Orange Anus begins his incessant rantings and ravings (of course, he'd need to keep repeating it over and over again throughout the evening).

he'll see as malleable, bought cowards.

If he makes veiled threats to Repubs and/or Democrats during his speech, they need to teach him a lesson.

If they don't all go down together, they'll go down one by one.

“Trump wants Bolton to be criminally investigated,” Sherman reported. A person familiar with Trump’s thinking said Trump believes Bolton might have mishandled classified information.

The guy (boy, child) who handed over intelligence to the Russians as well as Israel now thinks its worthy of revenge.

Will this nightmare ever end?

He is an intelligence sieve. I suspect that everybody knows everything by now. Shit, we might have to invent a whole new language to correct this problem. But I digress.

He is so revengeful that he will be spewing spittal all over the dais, turning around and glaring at Pelosi and probably pointing at anyone else he hates. He's the victim here, dammit!

I will be cringing while watching, I can't look away from this slow moving train wreck.

I'm going to watch. Let's see if he incriminates himself some more, as he is wont to do. Then the Dems can use the SOTU against him.

The best way is to trigger his vicious nature with Dem laughter at an appropriate time. Or, maybe if he mentions investigating his opposition, then some rise and turn their backs. He will mention this shunning in some negative way. Let's see what he's got.

I also feel that he will try to use the Chiefs win by somehow coopting their achievement as his own. Please KC, do not accept an invitation to the SOTU speech.

He is being farmed for soundbites, unless they drug him up before.

My guess is that it will last an hour and half, just like his rallies.

At the first insult the Dems should get up and walk out.

The alternative is for them to refuse to show up if a leaked copy of the speech reveals nothing but an insane, vitriolic rant.
