Sen. Manchin calls for censuring Trump over pressuring Ukraine to investigate his domestic political

Source: WaPo

Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), a moderate who is friendly with the White House, on Monday asked his colleagues to consider censuring President Trump as it concludes the Senate impeachment trial.

Manchin has prepared a censure resolution for fellow senators to consider in the coming days, which would be a less severe rebuke than removal from office for Trump’s efforts in pressuring Ukraine to investigate his domestic political rival.

“What the president did was wrong,” Manchin said in a speech on the Senate floor.

The crux of the case against Trump is the allegation that he withheld military aid and a White House meeting to pressure Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 candidate Joe Biden and his son. Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, while his father was vice president.

They don't deserve any sort of pass on their disgusting votes to keep him in office. No halfsies on this IMO.... They can't get away with having it both ways. God, Manchin is so difficult to digest sometimes

Like he did with the Mueller report. He can't just dismiss it as a partisan witch hunt if people in his own party vote to censure him. I've been saying since last week this is what they should do. And I'm probably being overly optimistic, but I think it would be hard for someone like Lamar Alexander who said what Trump did was wrong to worm his way out of voting for censure.

but he still has the honor of being 'impeached'. You can't take that away from him. That stain will follow him and his legacy for all times.

Censure is a compromise between 'removal' and 'acquittal'.

It gives those Repug Senators a way to put their money where their mouth is - when they say Trump did break the law but it doesn't warrant removal from office. He can't say he was acquitted or exonerated. He's been censured or penalized for breaking the law. I kind of see it as one mark against him - and he better clean up his act or next time - it's removal.

Put up or shut up guys. Censure Trump!!!!!

He can't take a victory lap or spike the ball in the end zone.

He won't be able to gloat at the SOTU.

It's another failure for the Orange One.

And, since we know he won't be removed, it's better than nothing.

I really don't want The Christian Dominion Fake Holy One as President, either.

I wonder if they've told the GOP take this or we'll just keep impeaching him.

Now...to something serious. Isn't there a way of getting small speakers into the Orange One's rallies? I'll bet we could get 100 people to scream "Liar liar pants on fire". I would just love to see his face as those words boomed out.

Little dreams.

Manchin thinks he can have it both ways. Maybe he can face a primary from someone who has the communication skills to educate and convince the good people of West Virginia they need a REAL Democrat.

If not, maybe we should concentrate on flipping another senate seat to replace him in the senate seat calculation. Then West Virginia won't matter. Too bad, So sad.

It also allows the republicans to say SEE, WE KNOW HE'S GUILTY, BUT WE DON'T CARE, SO WE CENSURED HIM TO COVER OUR ASSES.... Now forget about it. Water under the bridge. Spilt milk. Just get over it. Bygones are bygones. What's done is done.

And the #1 winner... "For The Good Of The Country"
