Jennifer Lopez drew viral praise on social media after she sang “Born in the U.S.A.” while wearing a Puerto Rican flag during her joint halftime performance with Shakira at the Super Bowl.

The moment came shortly after Lopez, whose parents are Puerto Rican, joined her daughter, Emme, in singing the 1984 hit by Bruce Springsteen while wearing the flag on stage. Moments later, dancers could be seen removing the flag, which also depicted the U.S. flag on the back, to hold it up as Lopez and Shakira performed another song.

Lopez received instant praise from social media users for the move moments after the performance on Sunday night, which marked the first time two Latinas ever headlined the halftime show...............................

It was a direct shot at Trump, who has treated Puerto Ricans as second-class citizens as they have suffered through devastating earthquakes and hurricanes.

Good Lord, beautiful! Singing a song critical of the imperialistic, warlike character of the USA while wearing the territorial flag of a part of America that Trump despises and regards as an imperial possession.

I didn't know that that was her daughter, either. Very impressive youngster enjoying the lights and the crowd -- how poised, how confident!

And cages! I totally missed it -- and I only drank one beer during the whole game!

I love stuff like this. A lot of perceived immigrants are not immigrants at all, just brown and might speak another language in addition to English.

I was up SUPER early to watch the tennis, and then spent a lot of time and energy making a birthday meal for my guy. Half-way through the 1st quarter, I was taking a nap.

A half-time show in Miami featuring Hispanic musicians sounds wholly appropriate.

I'm also proud that the show was headlined by women. It was only 30 years ago when concert promoters said that you couldn't have 2 women headlining a show. Thanks to Lilith Fair, they were proven wrong. It's unfortunate that it took so long since Lilith Fair to have a show like the one last night.
