McConnell releases impeachment trial rules, sparking new outcry from Democrats

Source: Yahoo News

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released the rules for a Senate impeachment trial on Monday evening, the night before Republicans in the chamber are set to approve them by what is expected to be a party-line vote.

The most noteworthy detail: Republicans will leave the House impeachment managers only two days to make their opening arguments. In the 1999 impeachment trial of then-President Bill Clinton, House Republicans arguing the case against the Democratic president were given three days.

McConnell, R-Ky., will argue the current rules give House Democrats now making the case against Republican President Trump a total of 24 hours to make their arguments.

But limiting opening arguments to no more than two days and scheduling them to start on Wednesday 1 p.m., Democrats will be forced to make their case against the president well past midnight on Wednesday and Thursday night.

He's hoping this will all be over quick and forgotten. Not sure about the last part.

Since both senators from Florida are Republicans - Scott and Rubio.

I told Scott's office person that with McConnell's travesty of trial rules President Trump will never be able to clear his name. Without witnesses and evidence he will always be considered guilty. Both Rubio's DC and local office numbers are not answering - they go straight to a message then send the caller to a message machine. Since I don't want Rubio to use my number, I didn't leave a message. I did talk to one of his office people a couple of weeks ago and left pretty much the same comment.

Since I normally don't refer to Dolt45 as president, this might help convince Scott that I am a Trumper.

ETA- I wanted to leave a message for Chief Justice Roberts, asking if he really wants his legacy to be presiding over a sham impeachment trial, but the Supreme Court does not have a comment line.

I won't be able to call 100 of them but I will call tomorrow too. I usually call the GOP reps since that makes more sense. I get addresses for GOP states from Zillow and can use it in case I speak with a person and they ask if I am a constituent. It works. If I only get machines like you did I will be able to call more senators today.

This sham trial will be over before Trump's state of the union. Neal Katyal says Dems need to appeal to Roberts to stop this, I don't see him doing that.

I mean what's not to be depressed about?

Trump violates the law publicly. Bill Barr protects him. So Trump owns the justice department, even SDNY I fear. Trump orders the NSA and CIA not to provide intelligence regarding Ukraine, and they comply with his order. Trump owns our intelligence agencies. The good people leading our military have resigned and Trump has replaced them with his cronies, like our new lobbyist Secretary of Defense.

Republicans are taking millions off voting rolls, suppressing the vote, gerrymandering, rigging voting machines, and even if Trump loses the election someone explain to me who is left to remove Trump from office?

People are worried that Trump may get 4 more years, I am worried that he may get more than 4.

Someone cheer me up I want to go back to bed.

And I have another question.... With all this new evidence coming out that mcTurtle wont allow..
Can the house hold ANOTHER impeachment with the new evidence? I mean is there a limit on how many times a single prez be impeached? Anything like double jeopard?

I am just presenting facts as I see them. I could also mention all of the people that Trump and the Turtle have packed the courts with, they are full of Nazis now. I could mention that Devin Nunes is still the chairman of the intelligence committee or that Barr will not recuse himself, or that Betsy DeVos is killing public education or that Trump's other fluffers are destroying our environment, increasing income inequality, increasing the deficit and debt. I could mention that but for 3 or 4 people on MSNBC that the MSM keeps Trump in power and will work once again to get him reelected. I could mention that Trump has alienated our allies and embraced our enemies. Is Saudi Arabia really our ally?

One thing did cheer me up today, Rick Wilson wrote a column where he claims that Trump will even turn on the people who fluffed him, like he turned on Matt Gaetz. My hope "is" in the 2020 election, that the American people will do what Republicans in Congress have failed to do, save our democracy. What Trump and McConnell and now Barr have done in 3 years will take a generation to undo and that is worthy of alarm.

Dunes is no longer the chairman of the House Select Committee for Intelligence, Schiff replaced him in January 2019 after the mid-terms, but he is the ranking member. One of the reasons we are where we're at today

The fucking moron will surpass the other impeached presidents by becoming the only one to be impeached multiple times. I think Johnson's impeachment was similar but not sure if he was impeached twice or attempted to twice. He finally gets to be a "winner". The question is, "Would Nancy impeach him twice?". He has committed many impeachable offenses so far and likely will continue. She will have a ton of different crimes to choose from.

Mitch McConnell squelching Articles of Impeachment and suppressing all evidence and witnesses is like O.J. driving down the highway in a white Bronco. Pretty soon that is ALL that people want to see, and this year, all the way to election day.

where mobsters control the executive, the judicial and half the legislative branches? Have we ever had a society where mobsters put Nazis in the courts, put White Nationalists on the SC, put lobbyists as Secretary of Defense, control the MSM, balloon income inequality, destroy the environment and public schools, dumbing us down?

I am an optimist but am also a realist, we need a hero or millions of heroes.
