Hawaii Shooting: 2 Police Officers Are Killed, Officials Say
Source: New York Times
A gunman opened fire in Honolulu on Sunday, killing two police officers, and set fire to a house he was in, starting a blaze that spread to several other houses, the authorities and witnesses said.
The Honolulu mayors office confirmed the two fatalities and on Twitter offered deepest condolences to the family and friends of the two officers as well as the entire Honolulu Police Department.
A police spokesman, John McCarthy, did not offer additional details about what led to the shooting. The police did not say whether anyone was in custody.
Patricia Cooper, 71, who lives in the area where the shooting occurred, said the police had ordered her and her family to evacuate after the gunman set the house he was in on fire and the blaze spread to other houses.

(94,552 posts)Police are not conducting a manhunt and have told Hibiscus Drive neighbors that Hanel is likely dead inside one of the burned houses.
Hanel, who was arrested for allegedly committing the misdemeanor crime on May 28, had pleaded not guilty to the charge. While making a false complaint or reporting false information to 911 is only a misdemeanor, the charge is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
Court records show Hanel has had a troubled past, especially in getting along with other people. From 2014 to 2018, seven temporary restraining orders filed were against him by four individuals, including at least one from a resident of 3007 Hibiscus Drive.

They're not coming to get your precious you fucking freaks!

There is that problem as well.
I do not know
On edit: I don't think that should curb sensible control. I would think it could only help a serious problem?

(10,136 posts)there are four different ideas on what is "sensible":
- pro-gunner masses
- anti-gunner masses
- pro-gunner law writers
- anti-gunner law writers
Unfortunately, the law writers tend to have agendas that don't match the general public's interests.

(571 posts)I would like the law to have a subsection which states that the seller of the gun must be charged as an accomplice to the murder. This would make the seller think twice.

(10,136 posts)- it all started with the landlord getting stabbed during an eviction notice.
- shooter is dead, not sure if shot by the cops or just burned to death in the house fire.
- fire spread to other houses while the fire dept waited for the shooting problem to be resolved.
