(Reuters) - Virginias House Republican leader said on Saturday that white supremacists and any other groups trying to spread hate, violence, or civil unrest were not welcome at a pro-gun rally in the states capital on Monday, which is expected to draw thousands.
The House Republican leaders statement came a day after the states top court upheld a ban by the governor on weapons in the area around the Capitol in Richmond where the rally is set to take place by demonstrators protesting against Democrats push to stiffen the states gun laws.
Any group that comes to Richmond to spread white supremacist garbage, or any other form of hate, violence, or civil unrest isnt welcome here, House Republican leader Todd Gilbert said in a statement. While we and our Democratic colleagues may have differences, we are all Virginians and we will stand united in opposition to any threats of violence or civil unrest from any quarter.
Militias, neo-Nazis and other groups have vowed to attend the rally. Authorities say they are expecting several thousand people and are trying to keep the event from becoming violent.

Richmond, capital of the Confederacy.
January 20, date for celebrating the birthday of MLK.
Billed as a gun rights rally. It is drawing neo Nazis and other racial supremacist groups who are vowing to defy Governor Northam's ban on weapons at the rally.
Would not want to be in Richmond tomorrow. Sounds like Charlottesville deja vu.

But, i also learned that some of the hate groups that encouraged their members to show up, thought the date and location fit their views. Fortunately some of the worst of them who had made threats and plans were stopped by FBI agents.
I am happy that it did not turn into a Charlottesville deja vu. But, unfortunately, concerns about safety kept some people the area from following through with plans for celebrating MLK day.
