New England Patriots admit to inappropriately filming the sideline and field at their next opponent'
Source: Cnn
The New England Patriots are once again embroiled in controversy.
This time, they've been accused of recording the Cincinnati Bengals sideline during the team's game against the Cleveland Browns Sunday. ESPN was first to report on the story. The Bengals are due to play the Patriots Sunday.
"We are aware of the incident, and we are aware it is being investigated by NFL Security," the Bengals said in a statement to CNN Sports. "We will have no further comment."
The Patriots organization released a statement saying its video team was shooting a behind-the-scenes feature on the Patriots scouting staff at FirstEnergy Stadium for a series called "Do Your Job."
The team said it acknowledges that the production crew "unknowingly violated a league policy by filming the field and sideline from the press box."
"The sole purpose of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road," the statement read. "There was no intention of using the footage for any other purpose."
The team added that the production crew was "independent of our football operation."
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was asked by a reporter about the rumors around the incident Monday. He said he was aware of the incident but didn't offer further comment.

Brady and the owner...kraft...lurve the yellow haired traitor...shoe lickers of the winger elite...both..
Pats were investigated on something like this before...A crooked organization...kraft should be made to
sell the team like the west coast billionaire racist was made to sell his nba team...
Brady ordered the pressure altered in the footballs during the playoffs one year...The old man got caught
with hookers awhile back...
Do I have to draw a picture for you here? These guys are typical of winger ethics...they have none...

(6,831 posts)I cannot recall any NFL team ever being so constantly caught at cheating.
I never believed Brady's story about the under-inflated balls. Some opposing tackle needs to under-flate his balls.
I also remember that their coach got caught employing lip-readers to know what the other coaches were discussing during the games.
Football - no longer a game, just a BIG MONEY enterprise. Cheat, lie, steal, just as long as you win. Sound familiar ?
Got caught again.

From a more technical perspective, John Candido, a data scientist at ZestFinance who is a colleague of mine over at the NFLproject.com website and was also involved in the development of this research, comments:
Based on the assumption that plays per fumble follow a normal distribution, youd expect to see, according to random fluctuation, the results that the Patriots have gotten since 2007 once in 5,842 instances.
Which in laymans terms means that this result only being a coincidence is like winning a raffle where you have a 0.0001711874 probability to win. In other words, its very unlikely that results this abnormal are only due to the endogenous nature of the game.

(36 posts)Up to the professional ranks, teams caught cheating to gain a competitive advantage, are forced to forfeit any and all games in which the transgressions occurred.
That said, the Bungles should be awarded this game by the traditional 2-0 forfeit score.
Why is it that only 1 team has ever been caught cheating, and now that team has been caught 3 times? Could it be that the NFL wants that team to win at all costs, and is willing to look the other way to insure a preferred outcome?
Time for Kraft to be forced to sell, and ole' Cheatin' Bill to be kicked out of the league.

(36 posts)It was against the Indianapolis Colts.
As a longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I am particularly annoyed by Ole' Cheating Bill and his underhanded tactics. Practically every single time that we (The Steelers) play against those cheating bastards, the NFL has to make a new rule to uphold at least one call that goes against us (The Steelers), allowing the Cheaters to win a game that they would otherwise lose.

(8,787 posts)that all pro sports are rigged. I grew up knowing that prize boxing was fixed. Then I began to see things in the other pro sports.
No one seems to remember in 1997? when the NHL had their lockout.....It seems that the top six professional hockey refs were caught fixing games and fired?? It seems someone??? was paying them to throw games whenever they played the dynasty teams, Avalanche and Redwings. The southern & newer teams were not getting much attendance, so they wanted to create a situation that they were winning more games than they had been, to increase the number of fans in the newer southern U.S. teams......
Sickening.

(24,392 posts)The local bookie came into the restaurant I was working in Manhattan and announced that the fix was in, and that anyone wanting to make a ton of $ should put it on Sugar Ray. Of course, we all scoffed because we thought Leonard didn't stand a chance.
The rest is sports (rigged) history.
Back in the pre-replay 80s, I had a sports broadcaster in NYC tell me that about 20% of NFL games were fixed. He said it was never a high-profile game, but rather a game out in the boonies where one team winning would help the top-level teams stay in the hunt. He said it was the refs who made it happen, usually by calling questionable penalties. You can see the entire bench deflate on the team being targeted - they know they cant win. Penalties like holding can be called on every play, so when one team or one player gets multiple calls its fishy.

(8,907 posts)Deflategate - cheating.
Spygate - My opinion from the start has always been, that if a team is signaling their plays openly, then the other team should be allowed to steal them. This happens in baseball all the time. Managers, coaches and catchers are constantly hand signalling plays to other players and they get stolen all the time.
When football teams are signalling in their plays from the sideline, I'd steal them too. That's why teams employ extravagant signal methods like using multiple people hand signalling or multiple people using signs to signal their play or a combination of both.
Now, if teams tapped into the Head Coach, Offensive/Defensive coordinators or Quarterback & Defensive players headset, I would definitely consider that cheating. But that's not what the Patriots did. They stole the hand signals.
So stealing signaled plays, I see no problem with that.
As far as this latest incident, Scott Van Pelt of ESPN reported that the camera crew came from the weekly Patriots TV show. They requested and received permission, from the Bengals, to set up a camera in the Pressbox. When the sideline camera was noticed, they were asked to leave which they did. The football operations has nothing to do with the weekly TV show and vice-versa. I don't believe that the Patriots would risk this for a 1-12 Bengals team.

(8,907 posts)I don't believe they'd risk this over a 1-12 Bengals team.
Last night after the game, Scott Van Pelt described what had happened.
The weekly Patriots TV show requested permission from the Bengals to set up
a camera in the press box, for their weekly show, which the received.
They also had a sideline camera, and when that was noticed, they were asked
to leave which they also did.
Football operations has nothing to do with the weekly TV show so they knew
absolutely nothing about it.
To say they got caught cheating again, is just another excuse to blame the
Patriots on something they did commit.
I don't have skin in this team, I'm a Bears fan 1st and a Niners fan 2nd.
This to me, is just Patriots haters being Patriots haters!

(14,886 posts)that the Patriots had pre-planned excuses if they ever got caught filming, including that they were filming footage for team promotional videos -- exactly their explanation today.
Maybe that's a coincidence. But it LOOKS like a pattern of rule-breaking.
If the NFL wants casual fans to believe that the games are not rigged/fixed via cheating -- and the gambling industry very much wants casual fans to believe that, and the NFL wants to grow their revenue from gambling -- then they have to drop the hammer on the Patriots. Believing the Patriots excuses and levying no or little punishment is corrosive to the notion that the game/league is fair.

Every player was "Palming" the ball, every player taking at least one extra "step" after holding the ball.....
I guess people just gradually learn to accept it, including the refs...........
No wonder there are so many records that have fallen, there are so many changes in rules (or new rules) that definitely have the effect of a higher score, or time......
Great example is the Patriots in the years leading up to the deflate-gate game......the Patriots lobbied and WON to allow each team to have their "own" balls when they were in possession......No longer both teams using the same balls throughout the game....
Some of the most famous ball players have been rumored to "shave points" to keep within the betting line of Vegas.....LOL
