Republicans Throw A Tantrum During Second Impeachment Hearing

Source: huff post

12/09/2019 04:07 pm ET

Lawmakers protested the proceedings and made theatrical outbursts in defense of the president.

House Republican lawmakers went to the mat to defend President Donald Trump in an impeachment hearing on Monday, accusing Democratic colleagues of engineering the inquiry in order to remove Trump, ignoring standard procedures and blocking access to witnesses.

The hearing frequently became disorderly and contentious, with theatrical outbursts from Republican lawmakers such as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and repeated interruptions of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.).

But despite the numerous attempts to distract and disrupt the proceedings, Republicans and their lawyers did little to counter the evidence that Trump sought a quid pro quo arrangement with Ukraine and sought to target 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden for personal political gain.

Uphold and defend the Constitution.... or uphold their party? Tough choice for them, and they’re all cowed into submission... unless there’s compromat against them, which is again a COI.

Nadler apparently got a bit rattled, forgot to swear in a panel of witnesses (?), the repugs jumped all over every error real and imagined, the proceeding started with a "protester" who turned out be be Infowars nutjob host being escorted out of the room.

They are trying to delegitimize the hearing by making it into a circus.

presenting the Intell Committee's majority and minority reports and therefore did not need to be sworn in, but the Rs made a stink about it anyway. Once Goldman and Castor became witnesses, after presenting the D and R reports, they were sworn in.

long before Trump. Remember the belligeren characters who broke into the counting of votes in FL in 2000? They claimed to be ordinary citizens angered about Dems 'stealing'' their votes. They were soon exposed as thugs hired by R's to intimidate the vote counters and stir up the R supporters.

Same party, same tactics today.

No adjoining rooms in far off projects of course. Nope, nothing like that.

No gold finger analogies. Nope. Ferget it. Sexy brittish spy. Impressionable greedy young woman with a daddy thing. Nope. Nothing to see here.

Glad you made that clear.

. . . . or not.

Trump has sold the idea he would lead 'his' party to untold riches and power, in a land filled with milk and honey, where every road is paved with gold. Throw in a touch of Evangelical Eternal Rapture, and you pretty much get the picture.

And they bought it hook, line and sinker.
Without stopping to think about detail and process.
(Just asking yourself how Trump would go about doing this, would stop most rational people in their tracks and not sup of the Enchanted Kool Aid.)

What you see here is a tribe unfamiliar with logic and rules, slowly seeing their promised rewards slip away in the bright light of Democrats saying 'Not so fast, guys! Now Wait A Minute! There's rules, there's regulations, there's the Constitution!'

Can you blame them if they go into irrational emotional meltdowns, curl up into the fetal position, and suck their thumbs in between loudly proclaiming 'Not Fair! Not Fair!'

But they, they got to their position through irrational and illogical thinking, so maybe an irrational and illogical response is all they have?

I found myself at a well known rural tire dealer who for 50 years has been pulling people from a 30 plus mile radius outside of Madison. They had the TV on to CBS who was broadcasting the hearing. The Republicans weren't winning any fans with "the local folk ." They were tolerating it but was obvious they were uncomfortable.

To me, then, Rs just came off as disruptive as it was patently obvious what they were doing.

But, all the antics are about the Rs trying to keep enough voters on their side to stay in power, nothing more.

the gop, I can understand why they try to protect tRump. He really IS the gop's "best and brightest"!! Certainly there is not a single one of them who would be capable of getting Russia to give them unlimited money to destroy the US. It took a pro like Don the Con to do this much damage. He has spent his entire life conning people. After all these years, he finally went too far. Taking his act worldwide was much too much, even for a pro like him. He has been exposed for the failure that he is in everything he does.

Gaetz is so bizarre looking! He doesn't photograph well at all. He always looks a little "off" or "touched" ... perhaps inbred... perhaps dropped on his head as an infant? Fetal alcohol syndrome? Was he conceived as a late-in-life pregnancy? He has absolutely ZERO social filters.
