Sports Illustrated names Megan Rapinoe sportsperson of the year

U.S. women’s soccer co-captain Megan Rapinoe has been named Sports Illustrated's 2019 sportsperson of the year, the magazine announced Monday.

Rapinoe was honored not only for her efforts on the field, working with the U.S. Women's National Team to take home their fourth World Cup in July, but also for leading the team in its lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation for equal pay.

The magazine, in a story written by Jenny Vrentas, said that Rapinoe isn’t being recognized “because of her newfound fame” but rather “because of how she’s handled it.”

7. Yeah, because Simon Biles didn't do shit this year

After all, she only won 4 individual gold medals at the 2019 World Championships. She also won another gold medal at the Worlds, as she led her team to the all-around championship - only her 5th time doing that.

That's fair. Give the award to the White woman who wasn't even the best player on her team (which was Alex Morgan by FAR!), and not to the Black girl who proved this year to be the best ever of her INDIVIDUAL sport.

She publically faced her abuser in court, and contributed to that bastard receiving his overdue justice.

But hey, a White, lesser athlete who was verbally attacked by the right...what can a Black woman endure to compete with that?!

...and then didn't do much. Rapinoe deserved this by a long shot. I have no comment on Simone Biles, but I think you may be reaching a bit on this one.
