Mark Sanford suspends 2020 presidential campaign
Source: CNN
(CNN)Mark Sanford, the former South Carolina governor and congressman who two months ago launched a longshot primary challenge to President Donald Trump, suspended his candidacy Tuesday.
"I am suspending my race for the Presidency because impeachment has made my goal of making the debt, deficit and spending issue a part of this presidential debate impossible right now," Sanford said in a statement. "From day one, I was fully aware of how hard it would be to elevate these issues with a sitting president of my own party ignoring them. Impeachment noise has moved what was hard to herculean as nearly everything in Republican Party politics is currently viewed through the prism of impeachment."
Sanford -- who emerged as a vocal Republican critic of the President before losing his congressional seat in a GOP primary contest last year -- made the announcement during a press conference at the New Hampshire statehouse.
While he blamed the impeachment process, Sanford failed to gain traction during his short-lived primary challenge. Sanford was one of three Republicans running to unseat Trump; former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld remain in the race.

(8,566 posts)For fucks sake.....Lindsay Ghraham, Nikki Halley, Mark Sanford, why do you continue to hate America. Is this payback for the ass kicking you got over slaving humans to do your work. Build a damn wall around South Carolina, that will make America great. Sorry to the reasonable people there, but damn, come on man? But, the criminal GOP vote destroying North Carolinians here contributed to the shit show, with Mark "nose up the ass" Meadows. These are the best we have for public service?

(8,566 posts)Both of our states are Victums of extreme GOP corruption and R/W propaganda. I want to believe most are good people and have been scammed. But, I live in the rural Mountains of N.C. Some are multiple generational hateful, ignorant and illiterate soles that thrive on Trumpism and can not be changed. It makes me sick when our "Representatives", keep mouthing what the "American People" believe and want. They have no clue and only represent what the billionaires that bought their seats. North Carolina was deemed by courts to not even be a democracy with the extreme Gerry meandering. We have been seized by corrupt Corperate slime to milk votes and get more power. That is why we both have The Meadows, Graham's, Halley's and long list of jerks that so called represent us. Any "Rep" that seeks out camera's with a flag on their lapels and keeps shouting what they say the "American People" want, I do not trust for a second. We have one chance to stop this in 2020, and it is dependent of the other 65 percent of potential voters. 35 percent are hopelessly brain dead with hate. God will not help us, he sent tRump. Ask an Evilgelical HypoChristian. I was stationed in Charleston during my Navy Service. Hate the heat but a beautiful state rich with amazing wildlife. Peace!

(50,168 posts)the Republican primary in an attempt to get Trump to lose the state. I was leaning Weld, anyway. (Disclaimer: If I suddenly have a strong backing for any of our candidates, I'll vote for them. At the moment I don't care which one it is.)
