Roger Stone leaves jury selection in his trial because of food poisoning

Source: NBC News

Jury selection in the trial of Roger Stone, the longtime confidant and adviser to President Donald Trump, got off to a bizarre start on Tuesday as Stone left the proceedings due to what he said was food poisoning shortly after an observer was taken out of the courtroom on a stretcher after appearing to have a seizure.

The selection of the jury continued without Stone present, but because of the earlier delay stemming from the separate medical emergency, it is unlikely jury selection will be completed Tuesday. More than 80 prospective jurors arrived at federal district court in Washington, D.C., to potentially take part in the trial.

Stone, 67, is accused of lying to Congress and pressuring another person to do the same. Stone's case stems from former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

We didn't have anchovies, so we kept some pepperonis in our armpits. If someone wanted anchovies, boom, that's what they'd get.

Isn't that just the prosecutor and defense asking questions and weeding out the jury pool?

If they hear something that they think might prejudice the juror they speak with their lawyer and sometimes an objection gets raised, or the lawyer delves more deeply into the troubling portion.

In one (bizarre) case I was in the jury pool for, the defendant decided he was going to ask questions of the members of the pool. After has asked me about my age and what I did for a living, the judge intervened and made him realize that acting as his own lawyer might not be the best choice he ever made.

D: What do you do for a living?
Me: Photographer
D: What kind? Portrait, landscape,...
Judge cuts him off: How does anything in this line of questioning in any way pertain to your case? (It started as some sort of a traffic stop, and somehow escalated, and he had demanded a jury trial.)

Jury pool excused for a conference. When we returned the guy let his court-appointed attorney ask the questions.

Christopher Haywood is a heating contractor who lives in the Seattle area. This moron found the “no license required to travel” sovereign citizen horseshit sites, believed them, sent his license back to the state, and has posted several videos of his traffic stops.

As you’d probably expect, the cops don’t behave the way he wants them to.

this was just some run of the mill nutjob that didn't have working brake lights or some such. I wasn't chosen for this trial, so I didn't get to sit through whatever insanity he might have tried. This had to have been 15 or more years ago.

That's what he does, lends well to fomenting conspiracy theories. Wouldn't be surprised if the other "medical emergency" was coordinated as well.

Viktor Yushchenko: Ukraine's ex-president on being poisoned
Ukraine's former president Viktor Yushchenko says he hopes Europe will wake up to the threat posed by Russia in the wake of the poisonings in Salisbury.

Fourteen years ago Mr Yushchenko was taking on a presidential candidate favoured by Russia when he was poisoned with a dioxin, a toxic chemical.

This is his story.

Look at the growth Roger Stone got earlier in his life. Whatever he ate which caused that must have been godawful:

23. Its a delay tactic
Tue Nov 5, 2019, 06:06 PM
Nov 2019

I was listening to a day old Stephanie Miller podcast, where a guest, forget who, was lauding the the upcoming Stone testimony because of new developments involving Stone, which Stone and his attorneys were not prepared for (to make up lies about). So when I heard this news today, it all makes sense. I wonder how long a defendant can keep delaying because of "food poisoning" or a bad cold or whatever?

Now that he's doing time with no reason to play to a jury, I've been wondering if Paul Manafort is still in a wheelchair complaining of gout symptoms?

I'm betting no.
