Jane Fonda, wearing the long red coat that's quickly becoming iconic, was arrested Friday yet again after what has become a weekly routine in Washington, D.C.: coordinated civil disobedience to raise awareness of climate issues.
Unlike other celebrities, who sometimes change outfits multiple times in a day as they are photographed at different events, Fonda has been sticking to her bright-red uniform week after week at the protests. Red appears to be the movement's accent color.
The only things distinguishing the arrests in photographs have been what's on her head and which celebrity is headed to the slammer with her.
Joining Fonda for her trip to jail this time were actresses Rosanna Arquette and Catherine Keener. In previous weeks, Ted Danson and Sam Waterston invited the zip-tie handcuffs. Next week, the founders of Ben and Jerry's are supposed to join in. -MORE...

(1,639 posts)It makes me think of Susan B. Anthony and her signature red shaw.
I made a point of buying a red shaw several years ago and I liked to wear it on Anthony's birthday. Unfortunately, it got lost four moves ago.

(2,008 posts)She's known for wearing a solid bright color head-to-toe (or is that "hat-to-shoes" . Since she's a small woman, this serves to make her more visible in a crowd/from a distance. I think the quote was something like "so that people will be able to say they've seen the queen"
For Fonda this strategy amplifies her use of her fame to bring attention to her cause, and specifically, the choice of red makes sense for "fire-drill Fridays".
Nancy P seems to use a similar strategy. I imagine bright colors would make her stand out from the men in their blue and black suits.

(6,831 posts)in July '72, when she sat with Ho Chi Minh, made radio announcements to American forces to betray their country and their fellow soldiers, and toured a North Vietnamese prison complex full of American GIs.
As she was touring the prison, anxious American soldiers passed her notes. Some were to the president, some were to their units and commanders, and some were to their wives and children, moms and dads. fonda readily handed the notes over to the North Vietnamese captors. The men were promptly "disciplined." Some died as a result of their "treachery."
Now she spends her time trying to rinse her reputation.
It is irrelevant whether or not you supported the war in Vietnam. But putting the lives of American POWs at risk is something I will NEVER forgive her for. I lost family to that war.
jane fonda can get "arrested" (Really ? She posts bond and is out in under an hour.) all she wants. It's little more than performance art. I see it as nothing more than a desperate attempt to remain in the news, and further whitewash her past.
