Former national security adviser John Bolton is slated to testify next week as part of Democrats' impeachment inquiry, in what could be a key deposition for House investigators who are seeking to unravel details about President Trump's contacts with Ukraine.
Bolton is expected to testify behind closed-doors on Nov. 7, according to a source familiar with the impeachment inquiry.
He is someone who was involved in some of the most explosive events related to Trump's contacts with Ukraine, but it's unclear whether the longtime Republican stalwart would defend Trump's actions or if he would paint his efforts to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open politically motivated investigations that as an abuse of power or as an extension of executive powers.
A spokesman for the House Intelligence Committee declined to confirm whether these hearings are expected. And a lawyer for Bolton did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

(35,423 posts)Trump pleased the Money Hoarders, but he pissed off the War Hawks. Bigly.

(113 posts)Yep, and looks like it's due next week!
Not sure which way he'll go, but I think Trump pissed him off. Enough to quit. He just might have a big axe to grind.
Me.

(7,113 posts)...according to Natasha Bertrand on Ari a few minutes ago.
However, his lawyer may be putting on the brakes, saying Bolton willl only do it under the cover of subpoena.

(13,988 posts)but his "I quit"/"you're fied" exit should result in some incendiary testimony.

(1,812 posts)just said Bolton will not be testifying next week because he wants to expose the real dirty shit in a forthcoming book he's working on If he spills the beans now , no one will buy the book

(7,220 posts)The testimony will be closed session, which so far has provided the public with general reactions, but no details (unless he releases an opening statement). Bolton's a despicable warmonger, but he's also smart and knows this is a golden opportunity to sell more books.
Which brings up my other concern: If he does spill any damaging beans, the R's will say it's sour grapes over being "fired", and/or that he's just trying to sell more books by providing hyperbolic testimony.
I still think he has more reasons than not to stick it to trump.

(21,347 posts)testify voluntarily. They say he will testify only if he is subpoenaed AND if a court approves it. Looks like there might be a delay waiting for a court decision. If he does testify I do not believe it will have anything to do with being honorable.. Mote like being vengeful.
