3 dead and 9 injured in shooting at Halloween party in Long Beach, California

Source: ABC News

A shooter fired into a crowd of several dozen people outside a home in Long Beach, California, late on Tuesday night, killing three men and leaving nine others injured, authorities said.

The victims were at a backyard party in downtown Long Beach when someone began firing "almost indiscriminately" from an alley, the city's police chief Robert Luna said at a press conference.

Luna said it appeared they were work colleagues who had gathered for a Halloween party, and that most of the victims were not Long Beach residents.

<snip>

"Why would somebody do something this horrific? We don't know, but I can assure you we're going to work very hard to try and find that out," Luna said. "When you look at this -- and again, this is preliminary -- I don't believe this was just a random act of violence."

Every day a shooting. Yawn.

And all the gun apologists apparently think it's a very small price to pay, to have their own guns so they can kill their own kid who comes home late at night. Or a toddler can find the gun and kill mom.

It's too bad that none of those gun owners ever come out and suggest that maybe everyone shouldn't have a gun.

one fueled by homicidal self-pity or mental illness, such as columbine, newtown, aurora, café racer. horrific shootings, senseless, infuriating.

the other is political, such as pulse nightclub or charlottesville. pretty rare.

this shooting belongs to the third, fueled by longstanding grudges between groups or individuals in low-income communities. most common, usually fewer victims in each incident, but a stead drip drip drip that plagues poor communities.

I have no clue if this one was gang-fueled or what ethnicity the victims or shooters, but this last strain of mass shooting is what gun humpers are always whatabouting about when the 1st 2 occur. code word "Chicago".

When it's the first group, it's typically youngish white males. And invariably--even if the assertion requires being blind to some things--conservative "gun humpers."

Don't point out some of the counterevidence to those claims, and the claims are assumed ironclad because unchallenged.

The second group is mixed.

The third group even more diverse. Meaning not "youngish white males" that are "invariably conservative".
