A tornado and several violent thunderstorms tore through the Dallas area Sunday night, destroying homes and businesses, lifting debris at least three miles in the air and leaving tens of thousands of people without power.
The severe storms, featuring 70 mph winds, heavy rain, lightning and half-dollar-sized hail, left 65,000 people without power Sunday night, according to Oncor, the states largest utility company.
Damage is significant in the areas where the tornado touched down, Oncor tweeted.
The city of Dallas said there are no reports of fatalities, but first responders were working overnight to check on residents in a door-to-door search, according to the Dallas Morning News.

(28,783 posts)I was in the 1957 killer tornado and we watched it moving
and hopping about two miles away. It affected a lot of
my little school friends, but fortunately they did not lose
their lives though their homes were damaged.
It was scary. They named the Dallas Tornado soccer team
after it.

There was another one that hit at Preston and Royal right where this one did.
My High School is damaged. Don't know the extent yet. Was just there in April.

(4,723 posts)Must've been a hack of a sorm system, guessing the same one that hit here in Springfield, MO a bit after 1:00 AM. I woke up to storm sirens, strong straight line winds, heavy rains, and lightening. Knocked power off as far as I could see, too. Even this is nothing like what these poor people in Dallas got.

(4,896 posts)for work. Was out at a late dinner last night in the Trinity Grove area. My server mentioned the weather...and I got an alert on my phone as I was driving back to my hotel near the Medical Dist. and Oaklawn areas. Not sure how far away from that I was.
Never been anywhere near a tornado 🌪 but I can say the weather felt weird to me. Yeah, there was wind and rain and humidity, but none of those were what Id call bad....I just felt very unsettled.
