Cuomo signs law aimed at weakening Trump's pardon power, closes 'double jeopardy' loophole
Source: NBC News
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a measure Wednesday that would allow the state to pursue charges against people who have received a presidential pardon a law seen as a direct shot at President Donald Trump.
Multiple ex-Trump aides and associates are imprisoned or facing legal scrutiny in New York.
The president also is facing numerous federal, state and congressional investigations related to his administration, campaign and business dealings.
The New York Assembly and Senate passed the bill to end the so-called "double jeopardy loophole" in May. The newly signed law creates a narrow exception in the state's double jeopardy law, which prohibits the prosecution of a person who's been tried for the same crime by the federal government.

(32,673 posts)had they performed proper oversight when it mattered the most, trump's criminal enterprise would have been shut down and trump would have been imprisoned YEARS ago. His charity wasn't even properly registered, FFS.
That being said, better late than never. I'm SO glad they're taking action now.

(22,023 posts)Governor Cuomo can be exasperating at times but he usually comes out on the right side of things. This is one of those right decisions.
Given the particular problems and corruption that Trump has created, we need additional checks and balances against Trump's brand of lawlessness. New York has taken a great step towards limiting the malfeasance a corrupt person could do.

(6,831 posts)Look at what they're trying to do to California right now.
And Alaska. Does anyone in their right mind really want to see THIS administration get their greedy little hands on the Tongass National Forest ? Mining, oil exploration, timber -- in short, destruction of one of the last pristine environments on Earth.
These people are some of the greediest fucks on the planet. Climate be damned, full profits ahead.

(53,410 posts)We need to see that happen in Congress when Trump is gone. We need to change every rule and law he broke so it cant ever happen again with the excuse that its not clear or too ambiguous to uphold.
