U.S. security chief 'heaped pain' on grieving parents of UK teen: lawyer

Source: Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - Donald Trump’s national security adviser heaped pain and grief on the parents of a British teenager killed in a car crash by trying to hold a meeting at the White House between them and a U.S. diplomat’s wife who was involved, the parents’ lawyer said.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn were invited to a surprise meeting with the U.S. president at his office on Wednesday where they were further shocked to learn that Anne Sacoolas, the American woman involved in the fatal crash, was in the building.

Mark Stephens, the lawyer for Charles and Dunn, said national security adviser Robert O’Brien had the idea of overseeing a coming together of the families before they would then hug in front of an assembled media.

“(O’Brien has) heaped grief and pain on the family by making them go through this but not allowing them to get the closure they need by talking to Mrs Sacoolas before they can go onto the grieving stage,” Stephens told BBC radio on Thursday.

Only Trump who is the most narcissistic self-serving vile asshole could make sure that meeting with grieving parents would railroad them and hurt them....

the WH/t-rump used the moment for a photo op with the ambassador's wife. Nothing more, nothing less. No remorse whatsoever. These people are sick. Sad.

I guess the great negotiator could easily patch things up. He’d already said they were on the wrong side of the road, and things happen.

After injuring and causing harm to you or a family member, they expect you to take the high road and forgive them. That's why they like the church. Their proxy priests do a good job of convincing the victims to just forgive and everything will be better.

Trump stuns Harry Dunn’s parents, says woman in crash that killed their son is nearby and able to meet

Oct. 16, 2019 at 9:18 a.m. EDT

LONDON — The parents of British teenager Harry Dunn met with President Trump at the White House on Tuesday, only to be told that the woman British police say was involved in the car crash that killed their son was ready to meet them.

Dunn, 19, was killed Aug. 27 when his motorcycle was struck by a car that police say was driven by 42-year-old American Anne Sacoolas, who was driving on the wrong side of the road at the time. Sacoolas, the wife of a U.S. government official, claimed diplomatic immunity under international law, which allowed her to return to the United States.

Appearing on “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday, Dunn’s parents, Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, described the meeting, explaining that they had no idea they were meeting with the president and had been invited to the White House to meet with “a senior official.”

Dunn’s parents say Trump offered his condolences before quickly alerting them that Sacoolas was in the building. “It took your breath away when he mentioned it the first time,” Dunn’s father said. ... With no prior knowledge that a meeting had been set up, Dunn’s parents declined to participate, saying that a meeting should take place on British soil and at a time when they felt more prepared. .... “There was a bit of pressure, but we stuck to our guns,” added Dunn, the father, explaining that Trump asked them two or three times to meet with Sacoolas.

The worst part about last night's meeting was that the White House tried to get the Dunn family to meet Anne Sacoolas with the press corps watching. The Dunn family are still grieving and all the White House wanted was a photo opportunity! It's disgusting! People here in the UK are rightfully angry about this incident and now they're doubly angry by how the parents were treated by the White House.

With a pending extradition request to face charges in the UK, Trump hoped to wrap it up here with a tearful apology and hugs on camera. Then he could dust off his hands and claim diplomatic victory, but the family didn't take the bait.
