Trump's impeachment barricade crumbles
Source: Politico
Donald Trump's impeachment blockade has collapsed.
The president's former top Russia adviser, Fiona Hill the first White House official to cooperate in Democrats' investigation of the Ukraine scandal has detailed for lawmakers a trail of alleged corruption that extends from Kiev to the West Wing. In dramatic testimony on Monday, she roped in some of Trump's top advisers as witnesses to the unfolding controversy.
And on Tuesday, a senior State Department official, George Kent, appeared on Capitol Hill to testify about his knowledge of the episode despite an attempt by Trump administration lawyers to block him, according to a source working on the impeachment inquiry. The House Intelligence Committee issued a subpoena for his testimony Tuesday morning, and Kent, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, complied.
It's the latest evidence that the White Houses stonewalling against congressional requests for documents and testimony is crumbling and Democrats are feeling a new sense of momentum.

(5,722 posts)There are plenty of well-built, secure facilities across America that can house him (and Joonyer and Ewik and Ivankabot1000) for the rest of his miserable life.
Don't think any of 'em have golf courses, though.

(22,120 posts)The favorable rulings (five of them from what I hear) against the rump admin. goes a long ways towards painting this administration as corrupt and desperately attempting to hide the crooked acts and breaking of the law. Is it any wonder why the corrupt republican senators in both houses (Senate and House) are starting to see the light and realize what's going on? You can't continue to use the stupid excuses that they have been using (oh, he's new to the job, etc.), after all, he's a so called billionaire, isn't he? Shouldn't he already be aware of crap already? He seems to be dumb as a rock (and I feel sorry for the rock). Pathetic.

(7,397 posts)hired colleague and I both used the term "I'm new, so...."
The facility director interrupted the meeting and pointed out the fact that she had heard the "I'm new" comment twice so far. She then proceeded to basically say "Once you are on the payroll you are expected to get yourself up to speed." That was paraphrasing of course, but I never forgot it. Oddly enough I was not really embarrassed. I just took her at her word and moved forward. She ended up as one of my best friends when I retired.
Anyway, it was Trump's damn job to be up to speed on everything and to listen to his advisors when he was not up to speed. He refused to do either.

(22,120 posts)now. She's right of course. The way rump has been acting and what's he has been doing makes me seriously wonder if he has so much wealth that he's been claiming. Plus the fact he's constantly fighting the release of his tax filings, his papers, etc. More evidence (hidden so far) that he's been lying here too, re. his so called wealth and such. Take care!!

(26,291 posts)someone be it the President or a SCOTUS judge and stonewalling will only delay it so long and it may make things worse as then you have possible obstruction charges to tack on which can lead to long term consequences.
For example it can lead any lawyers such as Barr for example to being disbarred.

(6,831 posts)I am getting fed up with this WH deciding what IS and what IS NOT constitutional. It is telling that they are refusing to hand over documents that Congress clearly has every right to request, blocking individuals from testifying and ignoring subpoenas.
John Roberts must be pissing his pants right now because all of this is going to end up in his lap and his legacy will be on the line. Will he bite the bullet and uphold The Constitution or go down in history as destroying the country ?
