2. Well now, I hope he takes care of himself.

And does not stubbornly keep a heavy campaign schedule and risk his health.

5. THEY don't have a right to reveal personal health information.

Its up to Sanders to decide how, when, and whether he discloses it. We don't have a RIGHT to know the personal health information of someone who is running for public office.

8. You're right

HIPAA laws mean that they may not disclose a person's health information. That makes me think it isn't real.

14. I think his campaign announced it, not the doctors

From the opening paragraph..."...his presidential campaign says"

17. His doctors called it

"After presenting to an outside medical facility with chest pain, Sen. Sanders was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction"

12. I think

that we, as voting citizens, do have a right to know the health of someone who is running for public office.

13. We don't have a legal right to anyone else's health or financial information.

It may be a good idea for them to reveal it, but we do not have a right to know their health information.

6. Combination of reasons most likely but two are more likely.

First because they probably wanted to see if he would recover at least enough to continue his campaign and the other was to plan on how to address it in a way that would mitigate as much as they can any potential negitive impact on the campaign.

16. Not only that...

Not all heart attack are the same. They can be mild and not even detected till later, or they can be fatal and everywhere in between. I'm sure at least a few of us on DU have had a heart attack and don't even know it.

9. Probably because he wanted the results of tests and he probably wanted to tell family and friends

personally. That was the reason John Kerry gave when asked by a reporter at the press conference he gave explaining he was going to have surgery for cancer as to why he did not say he was diagnosed with cancer earlier when a report asked him if why he looked bad. That was earlier in the timeline for 2004, but no one is voting yet and no one was hurt by him waiting 3 days -- when it was known that he had stents put in.

Sanders likely wanted to wait till he was out of the hospital - heading back to join his family.

Also did you blame HRC and her staff when as the nominee she did not explain that he had pneumonia until several hours after she collapsed in NYC?

18. Sorry, but this will be the peak of his campaign. People will have concerns about the future.

Just a prediction, but a lot of folks will take this as him not being able to hold up in office. Even though now that hes had stents put in, he's probably in better shape than he's been in for a few years. But to voters, perception is reality.

19. This will be reflected in his polling results.

Sanders doesn't have to do anything about it. The voters will respond in their own way.

This is about ageism plain and simple.

23. I think voters want stability in the Whitehouse and age is part of that.

People are never "comfortable" when there is some sort of transformation in the executive branch. As an added level of distress, a lot of people hear heart attack and they see it as the start of the short road to death. That is not entirely an accurate view, but in a race as critical--and competitive--as this one, it's going to carry an impact on the outcome.

I wish Bernie well, but I'm not optimistic about him winning this primary after this, and that isn't based on his age.

25. No it's not! If a candidate in his/her 50s, had a heart attack....

I would be a bit concerned. Letís say you had a liberal version of Dick Cheney running, with an early history of heart disease, would you be concerned, I know I would be.
