Joe Lieberman's son running for Senate in Georgia

Source: Politico

Matt Lieberman, the son of former Connecticut senator and vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, is running for Senate in Georgia.

Lieberman told POLITICO he will run in a special election for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson, who has announced that he plans to resign at the end of this year due to health concerns. Lieberman's statement on Thursday that he has decided to run as a Democrat makes him the first candidate from either party to announce an intended bid for the seat, and his decision comes before Republican Gov. Brian Kemp has announced a replacement for Isakson.

A businessman and former adviser to his father's campaigns, Lieberman, 52, has lived in Georgia since 2005. In an interview, he said he plans to combine his political insight from his father's career and his experience in the private sector over the past two decades as the basis for his run.

"We need someone who's going to focus on shaking things up in a good way, not the way that the crazy man in the Oval Office is doing it," Lieberman told POLITICO.

Can we not beat up on Joe Lieberman unless you have evidence that his polices and politics are represented by his son?

( he's pro-choice, pro-banning assault weapons, pro-overturning Citizens United and suppported Stacey Abrams)

Traitor Joe is the dad - not the son.

The world is full of very progressive people who had right-wing, or, like Lieberman, unprincipled, fathers.

he should be fine. And no the son is not responsible for his father's decisions.

Our jobs to h1b visa.folks at a large scale.. in 2001/2002. ....and having to train our replacements in order to get our severance....we formed several IT groups in Northeast area. We made packages of doc that we took to all State and Federal Congressional and Senate reps. The Only legislator that would not meet with us to go over the horrific stats was JOE LIEBERMAN.

to pay for a medical procedure my wife needed. A procedure that if I had needed it, would have been covered by Medicare. But since my wife is not yet 65, her commercial insurance didn't cover.

I was involuntarily retired at age 57 by my company replacing the IT staff with H1B workers.

It's not exaggeration to say we'd be a quarter-million bucks richer if Joe fucking Lieberman (whose wife is a health insurance lobbyist) hadn't blown up the Medicare-buy-in option.

So while Jr. Lieberman is not responsible for the sins of the father, he has to prove he's not his father's son.

It would be unbelievable if he can win Isakson's seat and then another Democrat can kick out Perdue next year.

As someone who is familiar with some of Mr. Lieberman's work in Georgia, color me unimpressed. I certainly agree with his positions, but I question how well he will be able to affect change. Georgia has better Democratic options.

are definitely Dem and his background is rather impressive so although I'm not in GA I'd vote for him if I were.

I don't judge people by a parent's actions or words because there are plenty of examples out there showing that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" is often BS.

Based on just this so far, while it's not a huge thing for me, I find him much more 'likable' than I ever did his dad. Of course I voted for Gore and him but felt that Gore made a mistake with choosing him. While in a perfect world stances/actions on issues and life experience 'should' be what voters use to choose, 'likeability'/charisma is important too in that it helps draw people to a candidate and can help get them votes.

Including his handsome Golden Retriever and 2 daughters, who rocked IMO, was brilliant btw. This part, as a parent of now grown daughters, was my favorite cute exchange though...

Daughter 1: Hey, we're voters. Let's hear what you have to say.
Daughter 2: Yeah, Why should we vote for you?
Matt Lieberman: Because I'm your dad?
