A New York Times investigation into Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaughs time at Yale University has uncovered another allegation of sexual misconduct that was previously unreported. Max Stier, a Yale classmate of Kavanaugh in the 1980s, reportedly said he saw Kavanaugh with his pants down at a dorm party where his friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student. Stier notified senators and the FBI about the incident but it was not investigated, according to the Times, which cited two officials who have spoken to Stier about his account. Stiers story echoes that of Deborah Ramirez, who came forward during Kavanaughs confirmation process alleging that he had pulled down his pants and thrust his penis at her during another party.
During his Senate testimony, Kavanaugh, who has denied the sexual misconduct allegations against him, said that if Ramirezs story were true, it would have been the talk of campus. The Times cites several people who had indeed heard of the incident, with two classmates saying they had heard about it from fellow classmates just days after the party occurred. Any investigation into Ramirezs account was limited by strict limits set by the Republican-controlled Senate. Of the 25 individuals that could corroborate Ramirezs story, and who were directly provided to the FBI by her legal team, none were interviewed.

There are ways out of this, but only with grassroots pressure.

(14,916 posts)would have MORE sexual assaults in the past than previously reported?
Goddamn it I cannot tell you how much I loathe the gutless selfish political expediency of that handful of Repuke Senators who pretend to be serious and principled.

(14,916 posts)I'm talking about Collins, Sasse, Flake (previously), Romney (previously and prosepctively), and so forth. The ones who claim to be motivated by something beyond naked partisanship and legalized de facto bribery -- most of them don't even bother to try these blatant lies.

(6,916 posts)If it feels like outside groups have an enormous amount of influence on Republican groups, that's because they do. Or they at least have a huge share of the money, according to new research from Theda Skocpol, an influential Harvard University political scientist.
The Republican Party's official organs have seen the amount of money at their disposal decline by hundreds of millions of dollars. Meanwhile, outside conservative advocacy groups mostly controlled by a small network of extremely wealthy donors have built sprawling national political institutions with large enough staffs and financial clout to rival a weakening GOP infrastructure.

(5,399 posts)being blackmailed with compromising information. Collins' husband has ties to Russian oligarchs, and I'm sure there is sexual kompromat on turtle. He was apparently court-martialed for sodomy in the late 60s, something that's been conveniently deep-sixed over the years. (Not judging sodomy, just pointing out hypocrisy.)

Last year, the Justice Department gave the Attorney Generals Award for Distinguished Service, the second highest honor in the department, to prosecutors who secured the conviction of Ahmed Abu Khattala, a ringleader of the Benghazi terrorist attack.
This year, the New York Times is reporting that Attorney General William Barr is giving the award to DOJ lawyers who worked to support the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Former federal prosecutors blasted the news as an unprecedented perversion of justice. What a joke, tweeted Elie Honig, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. This prestigious award typically goes to prosecutors who make the biggest cases against terrorists, corrupt politicians, drug cartels, organized crime enterprises, etc. And now AG Barr is using it to honor
Team Kavanaugh ...

1. Work to win the Senate canvass, donate, phone bank.
2. Work on DC statehood, which would give Dems two more Senators.

ANYTHING can happen in two years, IF we fight.
(Also, the next Dem pres with 51 Sen votes could just appoint two new Supreme Court judges to nullify Kavanaughs vote. Hed remain on the court, but his vote would be overcome by the two new judges. That only needs 51 Sen votes. Sostay positive! Can the negativity, please.)

(29,206 posts)unsavory reflection on HRC, and then the evidence revealed by Wikileaks took that feeling further. faux snooze scrambles many peoples brains, IMO. All the more reason local candidates should be forced to answer for their votes on Kavanaugh. Whenever we can show evidence/truth of R bad behavior, we should hammer it.
Yeah they voted for the jackass, but most of them didnt necessarily dive in to the issues like we do on DU. So the importance of media coverage of all the bad acts.

There must be a full Congressional investigation to determine whether someone, and if so who, gave orders that kept the FBI from investigating credible allegations & speaking to witnesses who reached out to them. We were told this was a full investigation.

(29,206 posts)There was that whole negotiation thing about whether there would even be further investigation post-testimony. Seems we were beggin for whatever theyd agree to give us, and it was largely unspecified and back room. It was an embarrassment to democracy. We really needed strong MSM coverage to get the public insisting on a thorough investigation. It was clearly truncated, totally partisan.
Yes, an investigation of the process would be great!

You might ask yourself why. Perhaps it is because they knew the womens accounts could be denigrated and dismissed. But the males story would hold much more sway. Again, ask yourselves why.

(768 posts)The Senate Judicial Committee made a set of rules that prevented a real investigation of Ramirez' claims. Apparently not many of the 25 witnesses Ms. Ramirez listed were talked to by the FBI. And of the ones that were, their statements were not submitted to the senators on the committee. Grassley is most to blame for this. No surprise.

(6,254 posts)Setting aside the sexual assault allegations which I believe to be absolutely true, all the other petty lies about Renata Club ,Boof etc. should be enough to impeach him. I am about Kavenaughs age and went to a pretty exclusive private high school and Boof didnt mean fart.
Instead of saying he was young, immature and drank to much, he put his hand on the Bible and straight out lied. Dumb, inconsequential lies that undermines everything and gives license to others to lie. For that he should be impeached because while we cannot know definitively if he assaulted the women who came forward, we do know that his other testimony about stupid things was full of lies.

(9,945 posts)... there are members of the "Deplorables" that believe these stories, but don't care. They think Crooked Donald being "grabby" and aggressive sexually is acceptable. They think, "Men should be men and woman should be women." They think men behaving this was is acceptable. Women should be flattered by the attention... when a woman is married, it ends because God and her husband protects her from bad behavior. Women answer to men and men to God... that's how they feel...
