Drug companies seek removal of judge in landmark opioid case

Lawyers for nearly two dozen drug companies facing more than 2,000 lawsuits over their alleged roles in the opioid epidemic are demanding removal of the federal judge overseeing the case. The request comes after a series of stinging rulings against the drug industry by U.S. District Judge Dan Polster in the leadup to a trial slated to begin Oct. 21.

(10,170 posts)With plaintiffs seeking $8 billion in cash for so-called abatement, the Court has determined that it, not a jury, has the discretion to decide how much money defendants may pay to government agencies for medical treatment and other addiction-related services and initiatives, the drug companies wrote.
Seems reasonable to me. It would take some serious education for jurors to be able to make that decisions.
Bunch of greedy corporations upset that someone just might hold them accountable and take back some of their stolen loot.

(4,373 posts)Not just the pharmy corps but the doctors...I've heard it from them more than once when I asked about the problem..."We are inundated with new drugs/revisions to drugs..Its hard to know what is dangerous or not"...
I'd say thats a bunch if crap..You gonna tell me a prescribing phd doesn't know the difference between a drug that can be addictive or not? har dee har har.....
