Trump admin won't give temporary protected status to Bahamians who fled Hurricane Dorian

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — The U.S. will not grant temporary protected status to people from the Bahamas displaced by Hurricane Dorian, an administration official told NBC News.

The status would allow Bahamians to work and live in the U.S. until it is deemed safe to return home. The same status is currently granted to over 300,000 people living in the U.S. from 10 countries, including the victims of Haiti’s 2010 earthquake.

Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan said on Monday that the Trump administration was considering whether to grant temporary protected status to people fleeing the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian devastated two major islands there.

Bahamians can still come to the U.S. temporarily, if they have the right travel documents, but will not be granted work permits.

they may be allowed in, but can't work to support themselves. Who will help them when they can't go home? Will already overstressed charities have to step in? Or should we just leave them on the devastated islands to starve and die? Another circle of hell for the Trump Administration.

I suppose there is a floating government office that is equipped to issue new documents any day from 08:00 - 16:00.

This is just another example of how heartless Trump and his grifters are.

Then if they do have documents and do arrive in the U.S. they won't be able to work to survive. So that leaves what, government help or a life of crime to survive.

Both would give the Trumpians reason to complain. 1. They are a drain on government resources or 2. They are criminals as Trump has already declared.

All this as Trump and his evil heartless mob of grifters are plundering the taxpayers of millions.

Stupid people enforcing stupid policies. A five year old could see the counter-productiveness of Chump's administrative actions.

I have no doubt that these people just want their family in a safe home, with the opportunity to earn a decent wage to get themselves stable again. Most would probably want to return to their beautiful islands to rebuild and resettle their lives.

Chump's policies will leave these refugees to the streets if they have no American family to take them in or no government assistance, and it will become a self-fulfilling prophesy that they will become scavengers or - yes - even "criminals" in order to feed their own.

Give them a hand UP, and stop looking at it as a hand OUT.

The justice will come the day Chump and his family lose all they have and look to the system to bail them out - literally. Instead, they should be placed on an isolated island to fend for themselves and make do with nothing.

What have we become?
