Liberal Democrats poised to back revoking article 50

The Liberal Democrats are set to officially back revoking article 50 in an attempt to position themselves as the most pro-EU political party.

The move would effectively sever the chances of an alliance with Labour at a forthcoming general election.

The Lib Dem leader, Jo Swinson, said she would support the cancellation of Brexit, and the party expected to adopt this policy and write it into its election manifesto.

“I relish the chance to take the fight to Boris Johnson in an election and I’m confident we’d make significant gains,” said Swinson, who was elected as the party’s first female leader in July.

I don't even understand what this phrase means regarding Labour vs the Liberal Democrats (who both apparently seem to want "remain" )... unless it has to do with some possible selection of a PM should that coalition manage to form a majority, where in that case the Liberal Democrats might try to extract some concessions out of Labour regarding who a leader might be (and most likely not someone like Corbyn from the Liberal Democrats' perspective).

Corbyn in particular, but much of the Labour party is divided over leave/remain.

with May leading the pack with lockstep Tory support (because Corbyn's own earlier positions were anti-Brexit). So he decided to proffer a weasely "compromise" position for the centrists and the Leave contingent within Labour. But now that Johnson has flown off the cliff and lost a majority, I think he (Corbyn) and the Remainers in that party should try to rally some of those holdouts.

It always was. The concept is deeply flawed as several significant ministry reports and independent research on the effects have shown. Were there another referendum it would without a doubt fail now that people have become aware of the impacts on daily life and their future income.

This is not to say that there are no elements and effects of EU membership that could stand reconsideration or adjustment.

I think it is more the case of removing every EU protection afforded to the people. The Ultra Wealthy can protect themselves.

Which I wholeheartedly endorse.

The LibDems are highly unlikely to form any official alliance or coalition with any other party in Westminster after their disaster with the Tories in 2010-2015. They may prop up a Labour government but won't join it.

My fear in an upcoming election is that there would be a Labour, SNP and Lib Dem bloc that would have the "majority"... the SNP would join a confidence supply measure to get a minority Labour government into power but the price would be a new independence referendum. I'm a unionist, so I want to see Scotland still in the UK but with all the toxicity of Brexit, Scots would probably vote for independence.
