House Democrats launch sprawling probe into whether Giuliani pressured Ukraine to target Biden

Source: The Hill

House Democrats are launching a broad investigation into whether Rudy Giuliani and others sought to exert pressure on the Ukrainian government in order to help President Trump get reelected in 2020 by targeting a possible political opponent.

Three House Committees -- Intelligence, Oversight and Reform and Foreign Affairs -- sent joint letters to the White House and State Department demanding documents related to whether Trump and his personal lawyer south to pressure Ukraine to help target 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

“A growing public record indicates that, for nearly two years, the President and his personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, appear to have acted outside legitimate law enforcement and diplomatic channels to coerce the Ukrainian government into pursuing two politically-motivated investigations under the guise of anti-corruption activity,” the chairmen wrote in a statement.

“As the 2020 election draws closer, President Trump and his personal attorney appear to have increased pressure on the Ukrainian government and its justice system in service of President Trump’s reelection campaign, and the White House and the State Department may be abetting this scheme,” they continued.

A bipartisan group of Senators is urging the Trump administration to release security assistance funds for Ukraine meant to keep Russia at bay.
In a letter sent to White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Tuesday, the Senate’s Ukraine Caucus — a group of three Democrats and two Republicans — called the funds “vital to the long term viability of the Ukrainian military.” -- Politico, Sept. 3

Two explanations: 1) transparent favor to Russian political interests, 2) less transparent pressure to investigate Biden/Biden Jr. (for obvious political ends, 2020)

I'm sure that it's less than a week before we hear him say on Live TV that he didn't do it, but asked Roger Stone to go through some of Paul Manafort's old contacts to get it done. So, y'know, nothing illegal there or something.
