Amber Rudd quits cabinet and attacks PM for 'political vandalism' (Brexit)

Source: The Guardian

Boris Johnson's government was in danger of imploding last night as the work and pensions secretary, Amber Rudd, dramatically quit the cabinet and resigned the Conservative whip, saying should could not "stand by" while "loyal moderate MPs" were purged from the party.

In a devastating resignation letter, she accused the prime minister of "an assault on decency and democracy" and "an act of political vandalism" for sacking 21 of her Tory colleagues for backing a parliamentary bill to stop a no-deal Brexit.

Rudd told Johnson she had joined his cabinet "in good faith accepting that no deal had to be on the table". She added: "However, I no longer believe leaving with a deal is the government's main objective."

While she could see the government was "expending a lot of energy" preparing for no deal, she had not seen "the same level of intensity go into our talks with the European Union" and updates from his office had "not, regretfully, provided me with the reassurances I sought".

in office for the most part over the past 40+ decades and yet voters will still vote for them.

They must know that leaving the EU is a huge economic risk, and a risk to the UK itself since there’s every possibility that Scotland and Ireland will vote to leave the UK and remain in the EU. If those two countries leave, UK trade bargaining power will be reduced even more. All this to prevent immigrants, especially Muslims and people of color, from settling among them. It boggles the mind that so much anger and energy are directed at an immaterial issue like skin pigmentation when both our countries have serious problems to address like infrastructure improvements, cybersecurity protections, wealth inequality, education, and on and on.

I swear, racism is turning people's brains to utter mush!

Fueled by fear and hatred, people are only hearing what they want to hear. When their whole world collapses around them, they'll wonder what the hell happened.

But its been my experience that such people rarely take responsibility for the negative consequences of their actions, though they are quick to take credit for any positive ones, real or perceived.

When the economy does tank, he'll find a way to blame Obama for that too.
