NRA slaps down Texas GOP ally who proposes gun control idea
SEPTEMBER 6, 2019 AT 3:25 PM

DALLAS (AP) — One of the gun-rights lobby’s staunchest defenders in Texas is bucking the National Rifle Association on background checks after a West Texas shooting rampage killed seven people.

The NRA pushed back Friday in a rare moment of the nation’s most powerful gun-rights group slapping down a key Republican ally.

It came after Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told The Dallas Morning News that Texas should crackdown on private gun sales between strangers. Federal officials say the gunman in last weekend’s attack obtained an assault-style rifle despite failing a federal background check in 2014.

The NRA called Patrick’s idea a “political gambit” and disparagingly compared it to those from Democrats.

Patrick has been an avid gun-rights supporter but told the newspaper: “someone in the Republican Party has to take the lead on this.”

I don't care about the 2nd amendment, shouldn't matter anyway NRA should be held accountable for a multitude of murders. Sue them for a billion (with a b) dollars (or a trillion rubles). Whatever. They should be forced into extinction.

He's a major league trump & NRA suckhole. If Patrick's mouth is moving, he's lying.

I imagine he's trying to take some heat off of TX Gov. Greg Abbott for the bad PR from those loosened gun laws that went into effect, right at the time of the Odessa TX mass shootings.

This is a bullshit ploy that isn't going anywhere.

that the freakiest of Texas right wing freaks -- and that's what Dan Patrick is -- is no longer being completely intimidated by the gasping, choking, dying NRA.

That really is kind of a big deal.

Report when the NRA is gone, that is all I care about, hang the leaders for treason for all I care from my pine tree, I give permission, their safety concerns has been long gone, since they had no regard for anyone else.

If you don't live in Texas, you may not understand how really shocking that is.

It's like Trump being thoughtful. Yea, that shocking.
