Howard Schultz drops plans to run as independent candidate in 2020

Source: CNN

Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz won't run for president in 2020, ending his exploration of an independent run against President Donald Trump.

"My belief in the need to reform our two-party system has not wavered, but I have concluded that an independent campaign for the White House is not how I can best serve our country at this time," Schultz said in a letter posted to his website on Friday.

Schultz's decision to abandon a potential White House bid will come as a relief to Democrats who were worried that a third party candidate could siphon off votes from their party's eventual nominee and result in a Trump second term.

In his letter Friday, Schultz acknowledged their concerns, writing that "not enough people today are willing to consider backing an independent candidate because they fear doing so might lead to re-electing a uniquely dangerous incumbent president."

Backing an independent candidate will lead to re-electing a "uniquely dangerous incumbent president" faster than you can say Vanilla Bean Frappaccino.

Reform the two-party system? What does he know about politics? A one commodity CEO criteria would make every pizza shop owner a potential presidential candidate. Last serious CEO-politician was Meg Whitman. Carly was a loser, as Trump told us.

He's spending a lot of $$, which digs him in deeper. Can he walk away knowing there's no way he can win, or is he so self-absorbed that he will continue on and totally help drumpf win by siphoning off some Independent and moderate Dem votes?

I WANT a viable 3rd option for this level of government as it is impossible to shoehorn 300 Million people into 2 ideological camps. Plus -- I lived in MD for 30 years and knew we would vote Blue and now I live in KY where I KNOW my vote for President is a throw away.

However, my desires for a 3rd party are overwhelmingly outweighed by the need to rid ourselves of the Orange Cancer in the White house.

My Wife is going strong for Bernie and I strongly support Mayor Pete. I will vote for whoever is the nominee next year.

I confess -- once this idiot is gone, I will likely revert to 3rd party for Pres Elections. Democrat in ALL Local elections -- I can help get rid of Rand Paul and Massacre Mitch.

and we have 2 independent US Senators and have had independent state governors.

You should know that supporting anyone against the Democrat in a general election can violate DU's terms.

Take out the tip jar where the customers have to supplement the Barista's wages while you live with your incredible wealth gained from an over 25 million salary plus bonuses.

I have no respect for these CEO types unless they are one of the few that are trying to close the wage gap.
