As expected, Boris Johnson has suffered another big loss, with the Commons rejecting his motion calling for a general election.
The PM would have needed 434 votes to reach a two-thirds majority.

(101,310 posts)is still going through parliament - finished in the Commons, in the Lords (about 100 amendments, though I don't know if that number will change). The Lords have literally brought sleeping bags in to kip in the rooms and work through the night(s) if needed (and they are mostly of retirement age).
The basic tactics are: Johnson will do anything to avoid any progress and have a No Deal Brexit happen by default on Oct 31st; the opposition will try and pass laws to force him to negotiate with the EU, either for a deal involving a customs union, or maybe an extension with an election and/or new referendum, and time to negotiate after that.

(43,140 posts)These are 3 moving issues, Boris and Brexit and Election. Still sounds to me like they're stuck with all 3 of them, but they're going to happen in modified form, more slowly. They're mentioning nothing about a no-confidence vote, for example, nor am I reading there is any party pushing another PM to replace BoyBoris. But you know, I don't understand British politics at all so don't listen to me.
