Sen. Joe Manchin III won't run for governor in West Virginia, spokesman says

Manchin, 72, previously served as governor from 2005 to 2010 and last year considered retiring from the Senate before reluctantly agreeing to seek reelection in a state that Donald Trump carried handily in the 2016 presidential race.

If he lost he would have stayed in the Senate. If would not affect majorities in any way.

While his own term lasts until 2024, so the Senate would've lost 2 years of a Dem vote. And in 2024, a Republican would probably win easily. So it's better he stay in the Senate.

And he can do more good there. With a deep red legislature, he wouldn't get much done as WV Governor.
