Joe Arpaio running for Maricopa County sheriff in 2020

Source: Arizona Republic

Joe Arpaio announced on social media Sunday that he will seek another term as sheriff of Maricopa County in 2020. Arpaio previously served as the county's sheriff for 24 years.

Arpaio noted the date of his announcement, Aug. 25, is the anniversary of the presidential pardon granted by President Trump and his wife's birthday.

Arpaio, 87, lost the most recent election in 2016 by 13 percentage points, to Democrat Paul Penzone.

In a statement posted via Twitter, Arpaio said, "On this day, August 25, 2019, after consultation and approval from my wife of 61 years, Ava, I have decided to run to be re-elected Sheriff. Watch out world! We are back!”

with 'criminal' sprayed across it. A monster like him does not terrorize the majority of voters in this county - it required enough voters to stand for decency and empathy to vote him out. He's not in prison and now able to run for office because he needed Trump's pardon. This is on a nation that allowed Trump to get into office. Arpaio routinely and without remorse, bragged about breaking constitutional law. He's more unamerican than the brown people he stalked and harassed ever will be accused of acting.

He has cost the county of Maricopa millions of dollars in lawsuits against his racist platform and the state and county is turning blue. Thankfully, I don't vote in Maricopa but if I did, he would not get my vote.

This is a law enforcement position and age does make a difference. Many departments require retirement at a much younger age than 87. 87 isn't the new 50.

Everyone knows 87 is the new 70!

Next you'll be saying 77, 78 is too old to be President!

Even the old people there said he had to go. Joe was starting to lose it and the older folks gossiped about it at her senior center.

Why is it that the evil ones just go on and on? Oh well, at least David Koch showed us they can't live forever.

"El Arpayaso"*, all he'll do is grift campaign "contributions" from the geezer ghettos aka Sun City and Sun City West unincorporated areas of Maricopa County. After he loses resoundingly ... because he's certainly not going to spend the money on campaign materials .... he'll pocket the grift and laugh.

*payaso is the Spanish word for "clown."

like a lot of politicians who can't seem to retire.

Their lives are so shallow and empty that they can't even enjoy traveling the world and being with their families.

The only thing they crave is attention.

It won't be long before one of them live blogs their death....

always a pathetic narcissist who needs attention.

I really don 't think he has a chance. The demographics of the area have shifted enough and he has too much baggage.

Hell, he's got nothing to run on anymore. There are no positives in his column.

It's the attention he craves. Anything that puts him in the news again. He's just an attention whore who can't let go.
