Seth Moulton Ends 2020 Presidential Campaign With a Warning

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts is dropping out of the presidential race, ending a candidacy that emphasized Mr. Moulton’s centrist politics and military service but gained no traction with Democratic primary voters.

Mr. Moulton, 40, said in an interview that he had no immediate plans to endorse another candidate, but he warmly praised former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Mr. Moulton planned to announce the end of his campaign in a formal speech before the Democratic National Committee on Friday.

Mr. Moulton suggested that most of the other Democratic candidates were also laboring in vain at this point, with only a tiny few — Mr. Biden and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders — remaining as real competitors for the nomination. He warned in the interview that if Democrats were to embrace an overly liberal platform, it could make it harder for the party to defeat President Trump.

“I think it’s evident that this is now a three-way race between Biden, Warren and Sanders, and really it’s a debate about how far left the party should go,” Mr. Moulton said.

never go radical until you have seized power

We should run left of center, enough to inspire hope and change and mollify the wreckage Trump has wrought

but not so far left as to scare off working people who wonder how we will pay for it. They know Democrats don't run deficits and won't be able to after Trump.

that working people DO think Democrats run deficits and that the GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility.

It's well past time that the Democrats hammer home - over and over and over again -- that the opposite is true. There's plenty of proof.

But first they need to explain the difference between debt and deficit......

Do you really think McConnel would let us pick judges, including Supreme Court justices if he can stop it?

And he thinks because he is serving the 5th year of his 3rd two year term his way is the best way. And his wisdom outshines everyone else. I don't know if his thought process is from being in the military or something else. But he did seem like he was stuck in the mud.

I can't think of the male equivalent of a female saying "Honey, ..."

The debate should not be about whether we go too far left or try to be middle of the road. The debate should be about what is right for this country. And how do we get back on track after Trump is defeated.

It's good that some of these people are dropping out because there have been way too many candidates trying to grab headlines. The media will only focus on 2, maybe 3 people and that's all it has ever done.

We need precious resources (Democratic donations) going to the ones who can go the distance. It's going to be a long race, and fundraising will get harder down the line.

Thank you Seth, now please step aside.

the policies we believe in. When liberal issues are listed and debated, most people believe in them. It’s only when the term “liberal” is used as a description of the policies, a segment of society doesn’t like it. Most working people want good jobs, healthcare, affordable college, good schools, Social Security and Medicare, all liberal ideas.

when someone is making them to assert that Hillary rigged the system.

Other than that, people just ignore it. They mocked HRC for complaining about it in 2008, and nobody complaining in 2019-2020 will be paid any attention to. Without misogyny in the mix the argument goes nowhere, regardless of its merits.
