European officials draft radical plan to take on Trump and U.S. tech companies

Source: Politico

European Union officials have drawn up an aggressive 173-page plan to counter both President Donald Trumpís trade moves and American tech giants including Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook.

According to a document obtained by POLITICO, European Commission officials are pushing their president-elect, Ursula von der Leyen, to set up a European Future Fund that would invest more than $100 billion in equity stakes in high-potential European companies.

The goal: get Europe competing head-on with the American and Chinese tech giants it has lagged behind for decades.

Theyíre also advocating for Europe to show more grit in Trumpís trade war, saying the EU should slap tariffs unilaterally on the United States.

1. Nice! Republicans are destroying America's economic advantages

We are an economic superpower in part because of innovation and our universities and our tech sector.

Republicans donít care if they destroy that.

Party before country: as long as their donors get tax cuts they just donít give a sh*t about anything else.

3. Europe is a joke, they're not going to compete against the US anytime soon

Most of the silicon valley companies are just a happy side-effect of the military-industrial complex. Not to mention how the biggest customer of Facebook and Google is the US government with all that wonderful data gathering capability just ripe for the picking.

4. To compete against the massive US state investment,

contrary to laissez-faire neoliberal dogma and mostly via the MIC, in technical innovation the EU needs to do this, and more.
