Mayor G.T. Bynum on Monday signed an executive order extending the city of Tulsas nondiscrimination policy to protect more of the LGBTQ community.
The order adds the words gender identity and gender expression to the citys existing policy, which already protected city employees based on race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.
Oklahomans for Equality issued a statement praising Bynum and the City Council for their support for LGBTQ Tulsans.

Bynum is a Republican leading a city that last elected a Democrat for mayor in 2006, in a state that also last elected a Democrat for governor in the same year (a nationally strong year for Dems owing to the declining popularity of Bush).
