Nadler presses ahead with impeachment probe as Pelosi keeps door open

Source: CNN

"The House Judiciary Committee is now engaged in a full-blown investigation and legal fight with the goal of deciding whether to recommend articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump by the end of the year, according to Democratic officials involved in the effort. Recent court filings and public statements by top Democrats point to a dramatic escalation after lawmakers debated internally for months over mounting an impeachment inquiry into the President."

"As additional House Democrats continue to call for the House Judiciary Committee to launch an impeachment inquiry — which more than half the caucus now supports — Democratic sources say the issue is essentially moot since what the panel is doing is basically that: investigating whether Trump should be impeached."

"House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler backs an impeachment inquiry and has made clear in a series of steps and public statements that he is actively considering recommending articles of impeachment in an attempt to remove Trump from office, something the House made clear in a new lawsuit to force former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify."

"Pelosi has shifted her tone over impeachment in recent weeks -- and aides say she's green-lit the language in the House lawsuits that contend the committee is considering voting on whether to impeach the President. She has long contended the House needs to be methodical in its approach, but has consistently batted away talk that the chamber's goal was to impeach Trump, arguing such a move would be divisive and ultimately unsuccessfully since two-thirds of the GOP-led Senate would need to vote to remove Trump from office."

Them to publicly state a conclusion at the end. Ok if they advance but if they have to say, "Nope, not enough to impeach," how is that any better than everyone voting no in a real Impeachment...he's innocent?

Why not just put us out of our misery? Tell us right now you are afraid of your own abilities to counter the inevitable backlash by Fox News and some of the rest of the MSM, and Facebook, Twitter trolls. That its time to "look forward".

I think they (Nancy, Chuck, and the rest of the established leadership) are stalling for time. They have zero intention of holding impeachment hearings. They think they have a better chance at winning in 2020 by sitting back and hoping Trump will hang himself. With some future statement or action that will finally be the straw that breaks the camels back. Even though one after another straw is being shredded daily with not much of a dent in his 40+ % support.

That they will somehow scrape together enough Never Trumper Republicans who will admire their constraint in not embarrassing the Republican party. That Fox News still employs Chris Wallace and Shepard Smith at least and they are afraid of a Fox News post Impeachment's anger and enmity.

But what it boils down to is they are willing to take a huge risk with the country itself, with stopping this vast corruption, with denying the American people the information that a full impeachment would reveal to them, because it would upset the order of things too much. Their perceived advantage to win more seats, by appearing more cautious and prudent, is more important. Even at the risk of allowing Trump to rule for another full year + and what he could do by then. Its a very big risk, especially when I and many Democrats think that HAVING an impeachment would actually help our chances, no matter if the Senate votes against it or not. We could have our cake and eat it too. But it would require faith and courage, and putting country ahead of party.
