Four people were killed, including a 6-year-old boy, and 15 were wounded Sunday as two gunmen opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California.

One of the suspects was shot and killed, and a second suspect was still on the loose late Sunday, sources told NBC Bay Area.

A 6-year-old boy was among those killed, according to members of his family.

Police and emergency personnel responded to reports of an active shooter incident at Gilroy's Christmas Hill Park about 5:30 p.m. As of 9:30 p.m. the scene was still active, with multiple agencies searching for the outstanding suspect, according to Gilroy police.

Live on TV they are talking to witnesses and there are reports of injured and some fatalities - local KRON 4 NBC is reporting that there may be as many as 11 fatalities and they are going to be confirming more soon.

Ambulance crews were responding to reports that as many as 11 people were injured in a possible shooting Sunday at the Gilroy Garlic Fesival in Northern California, NBC Bay Area reported.

The annual festival, one of the largest food festivals in the United States, was near the end of its third and final day at the time.

A witness, Maximo Rocha, a volunteer with the Gilroy Browns, a Pop Warner youth football team in Gilroy, about 30 miles southeast of San Jose, said he saw many people on the ground, although he couldn't be sure how many may have been shot and how many may have been trying to protect themselves.

But he told NBC Bay Area that "quite a few" of them were injured in some fashion, "because I helped a few." Gloria Parker, another witness, told the station that she and other people began running when they heard 10 to 15 bangs that they initially thought were firecrackers.

Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are responding to the scene of a shooting at an annual food festival in northern California.

At least five people were shot Sunday at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, a hospital spokeswoman says.

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou says the hospital has received two victims from the shooting and expects three more. She had no information on their conditions.
