Jeffrey Epstein Found Injured in NYC Jail Cell After Possible Suicide Attempt or Assault: Sources
Source: NBC New York
Accused pedophile and wealthy Manhattan financier Jeffrey Epstein was found injured and in a fetal position inside his cell at a New York City jail, according to sources close to the investigation.
Epstein, who is being held in Metropolitan Correctional Center during his trial for conspiracy and sex trafficking, was found semi-conscious with marks on his neck, sources told News 4. Investigators are trying to piece together what happened, and have spoken to an accused killer who one source says may have attacked Epstein.

"A fourth source said an assault has not been ruled out, and that another inmate was questioned. The inmate who investigators have talked to in Lower Manhattan facility has been identified as Nicholas Tartaglione, according to two sources. Tartaglione is a former police officer in Westchester County who was arrested in December 2016 and accused of killing four men in an alleged cocaine distribution conspiracy, then burying their bodies in his yard in Otisville in Orange County, according to court records."

(178 posts)many of them having been molested themselves. Just saying. In fact, one interesting commonality among many incarcerated men is that they enjoyed relationships with adult women while in their teens which teen boys very often, maybe always, consider a badge of honor while totally oblivious to the fact they are in fact being molested.

(28,120 posts)I think I read somewhere that he has kind of an "insurance policy" whereby someone he trusted would mail things out if he were ever killed. Things that would expose a lot of people, ensuring that people would not try to murder him. I think there is a term for that but I can't recall what it is at the moment. "Kill-safe"? (Or is that a gamer term?)

(7,528 posts)Although it's usually more of a mechanical/plot setup in books or movies - if a person doesn't log in to a web page or some kind of account on a regular basis, it's set to automatically email evidence to specific people who can do something with it. And it only offers protection if enemies are aware of it.
Likely this could be accomplished by a human assistant as well. "If anything happens to me, drop this in the mail."
It's common on true crime recreation shows that a victim's friend has an "If anything happens, tell the police to investigate this person" letter or conversation with them.

(3,189 posts)Scarily enough, the concept exists in the real world in other ways. The Soviet Union supposedly had (and Russia supposedly has it today) a system called either "Perimeter" or "Dead Hand."
The basic idea was that if all of the leadership folks were dead, this automated system would launch all the nukes at preset targets. That way even if the US managed a successful decapitation strike, there'd still be a response and thus, mutually assured destruction.
Good times with nuclear weapons...

(30,811 posts)If indeed that is what happened.
All human beings deserve to be treated with some basic respect for their physical needs. Nobody should physically suffer while in prison and we should not applaud it when it happens.
How different is it to cheer on violence against this reprehensible person than it is to endorse violence against people crossing our borders, who right-wingers find reprehensible?
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)Maybe it was a ploy to get a better cell / a better facility.
Maybe it was self-inflicted.
Maybe he was attacked.
I want to see him go through the judicial system, without any fixing or special favors, and receive justice. The justice system relies on the premise of "innocent until proven guilty," and there is a substantial amount of evidence...not limited to the materials found in his own home...that strongly suggests his innocence may be doubtful.
I want to see him receive whatever the justice system has determined to be the appropriate response for his "alleged" crimes.
That's about as diplomatic as I get. I don't endorse violence. I endorse justice, and in his case...if he is found guilty...I endorse the maximum sentence allowed by law. If that ends up being 45 years behind bars, as the media has suggested, I'm all for it.

If he's in adminstrative segregation (where he should be for his protection and his importance in ongoing investigations) no can get access to him without being allowed by corrections officers at some level. Even adseg exercise areas are in isolated cages exposed to outside air and are observed by staff. He is not supposed to be alone with other prisoners...ever.
