Oregon GOP launches effort to recall Democratic Gov. Kate Brown
Source: The Oregonian
The chairman of the Oregon Republican Party on Monday filed paperwork to launch a recall against Democratic Gov. Kate Brown, citing some of the laws Democrats passed in the 2019 legislative session.
Chairman Bill Currier also pointed to Browns announcement the day after lawmakers went home last month that if necessary, she would use her executive powers to implement climate change policies similar to the plan defeated in Salem this year. In a move that attracted international attention and rallied conservatives in Oregon, Senate Republicans boycotted the Capitol for more than a week in June to prevent Democrats from voting on the carbon capping bill. Democrats ultimately conceded they lacked the votes to pass the bill.
(Brown) has threatened to usurp legislative power with executive orders to implement her failed legislation, deciding single-handedly what is best for Oregon, Currier wrote on the petition, on which he used his official GOP email address. This is not the Oregon way.
Monday was the first day opponents could file petitions to recall Brown, who has now served six months of her second term after winning reelection in November. Organizers now have 90 days to gather 280,050 valid signatures from voters, according to the Secretary of States office. Thats a high bar: its not unusual for campaigns to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars collecting signatures to qualify initiatives for the ballot, even though recent initiatives have needed just over 100,000 signatures to qualify.

See the Wikipedia article about political party strength in Oregon. Republicans have lost every Oregon governor election since...1986! Even in the year of the national "Republican Revolution" in 1994, Republicans could only flip the state Senate and thus a legislative majority.
Washington and Oregon are the two Western States that last had Republican governors during the Reagan years.
This is the result of 30+ years of failing to recruit a candidate who can win in a regular election cycle.

(6,699 posts)Those cowards ran out of state to prevent the legislature from voting on the measures. If this is how they want to play....dirty...then two can tango. I'm all for her using whatever legal power she might have. These sons a bitches need to be run out of the state. Unfortunately, Oregon has a LOT or rural area, hence a lot of trumpinistas. Cities are great, rural is beautiful, but loaded with idiots.

Is a stunningly bizarre bunch of whack noodles... I hope the spend the entire party budget on this bullshit drive and the court case it will trigger. Its time to destroy the few sagebrush rebellion mouth breathers left in the armpit of The West - central Oregon.

No wonder that party has been essentially irrelevant in Oregon since the '80s. The party went downhill from Mark Hatfield to Art Robinson, and wannabe LARP militias cheering on absentee state senators (and even one who threatened a cop) and holding federal wildlife refugees hostage.

There is a second recall petition being started as well, but it looks like it will never get the okay. The guy who filed it is using a UPS box as his address.
His recall is about the state not fixing homelessness

We need to expose this fraud of a president out in the open each and every day. Impeach now or a few months before the election? Start causing concern now!

Obviously, voters in OR like Gov. Brown to elect her twice. 'Thuglicans just want to keep denying climate change.

(7 posts)I have lived in Oregon for 25 years. Governor Brown is an excellent governor but the GOP wants control of this state badly. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN. We have been a blue state forever.
The GOP here is really underhanded and liars. Dirty politics is their daily goal. Bring it. We're ready!
