Heavy rain causes major flooding across southwestern Pennsylvania

Heavy rain on Thursday caused major flooding across southwestern Pennsylvania that impacted thousands of people.

The storms started early Thursday morning, and continued throughout the day.

Below you will find a county-by-county look at the damage and other impact from this flooding.
Allegheny County:

The first flooding reports came in along Allegheny River Boulevard in Penn Hills around 7:30 a.m. This was followed shortly by similar reports in Etna, Oakmont and Shaler. O'Hara Township declared a State of Emergency after the first round of storms move through.

Route 28 between the 40th and 31st street bridges was closed southbound for the second time in as many months as runoff from Troy Hill brought water and debris into the road. It was reopened around 7 p.m.

By noon, the storms had dropped enough water to force a temporary closure of the bathtub section of the Parkway East near downtown Pittsburgh.

1. That is a picture of what will be the norm soon enough.

Climate researchers said that states north of the Gulf and those in the states W. Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio , PA, etc will experience more than average rain in the future.

2. This is bad, but watch what's happening in the Gulf...

there's talk the levees could breach this time. The Mississippi overflowing a 20 foot levee.

As terrifying as that is, it's apparently not as important as a question on the Census.

3. I live in Pittsburgh. Flash floods have become the norm in summer here these last six years.

And people around me still say there is no climate change.

4. It's been weird this year

Last year, it rained about every other day like clockwork. Lawns and trees took a real beating. This year, it hasn't rained as many days, but the thunderstorms have dropped a lot of rain at once. It seems like everyone is dealing with wet basements to one degree or another.

5. All that rain is basically our polar ice-caps relocating to the warmer climate.

No scientific proof, but just a hunch.

expect more we got over 5 inches on Monday
West Virginia got 5 1/2 before the fourth as did Tennessee
