Trump calls on foreign countries to protect their own oil tankers

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 06/24/19 08:51 AM EDT

President Trump on Monday appeared to argue that the U.S. does not need to protect commerce in foreign waterways like the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting he's not concerned about Iranian activity there as long as Tehran does not develop a nuclear weapon.

The president, who has long expressed opposition to America's role as the world's police, tweeted that China and Japan are among the countries that get most of its oil via shipping through "the Straight," and called on them to protect their own vessels.

Trump's tweet came as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with leaders in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to discuss how to counteract Iran's actions in the region.

In a since-deleted tweet, Pompeo said he had a "productive" meeting with the King of Saudi Arabia where they discussed "heightened tensions in the region and the need to promote maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. Freedom of navigation is tantamount."

Electric cars...…

I admit majority of the vehicles are on gas. My heat and stove at home is still dependent on gas. Shut down "oil" and millions will be without the necessity. Chaos will ensue. The USA will basically be shut down.

I do not trust the people in the WH nor the Republican senate nor the conservatives in the courts, DOJ, IC and US SC. They do not care about mankind, the earth.

a democrat said it. I might be fine with less foreign entanglement, but in this case it proves Trump doesn't understand global economics and the Petrodollar.

The reason we're the only country in the world with nuclear aircraft carriers isn't to be bullies, but to project our strength halfway around the world to protect oil shipping. Since all OPEC oil trades in US Greenbacks, our economy is tied to the price of a barrel of crude. China and Japan have to convert those yens to Jacksons whenever they buy a tanker full of black gold, and a disaster in the Straits of Hormuz would have a devastating result on our economy.

It's obvious Trump has no interest in protecting that flow of oil around the globe, and all the enthusiasm for bullying random countries for the sake of vanity.
