Iranian hackers wage cyber campaign amid tensions with US

WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran has increased its offensive cyberattacks against the U.S. government and critical infrastructure as tensions have grown between the two nations, cybersecurity firms say.

In recent weeks, hackers believed to be working for the Iranian government have targeted U.S. government agencies, as well as sectors of the economy, including oil and gas, sending waves of spear-phishing emails, according to representatives of cybersecurity companies CrowdStrike and FireEye, which regularly track such activity.

It was not known if any of the hackers managed to gain access to the targeted networks with the emails, which typically mimic legitimate emails but contain malicious software.

The cyber offensive is the latest chapter in the U.S. and Iran’s ongoing cyber operations targeting the other, with this recent sharp increase in attacks occurring after the Trump administration imposed sanctions on the Iranian petrochemical sector this month.

We shouldn't be surprised if "new Pearl Harbor" Bolton stages some 'incident' here in the U.S. in the next few weeks sometime.

Treason is second nature to that rabid weasel and his boss the Orange Blob.

No, they don't deserve being bombed.

But they are simply fundy Muslim nutcases, and they ARE supporting terrorist groups.

He pulled out of the Iran deal, levied drastic sanctions to destroy Iran’s economy, and supports John Bolton, who argues openly for regime change—which means war and a mess larger than even the Iraq War.

Yes, Iran supports terrorist groups, but no more so than Saudi Arabia. In addition, it is Saudi Arabia that exports Wahhabism, the extremist version of Sunni Islam followed by Osama bin Laden (a Saudi, along 19 of the 9/11 terrorists), ISIS, and al Qaeda. Yet, Trump is befriending Saudi Arabia and wants to give them our nuclear technology and have them build our bombs, thus gaining the expertise to build their own, while threatening that Iran cannot develop their own nuclear technology. The last thing the volatile Middle East needs is nuclear capability by any power, but Saudi Arabia is using Trump to try to gain dominance over the entire Middle East. iran stands in their way.

Trump is pushing Iran to the brink instead of trying diplomacy because he thinks he can bully them into giving up. I think they won’t without a war—a war that would cost US lives and turn into an expensive quagmire. This situation was totally preventable. Iran was abiding by the Iran Agreement made under Obama. Trump pulled out of that agreement solely because it was Obama’s and to show that he could negotiate a better deal. In this situation at least, it is Trump who is at fault, not the Iranians
