Medic stuns courtroom saying he killed prisoner, not Navy SEAL on trial

Source: Reuters

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - A Navy SEAL medic testified on Thursday that he was responsible for the death of an Islamic State fighter - not the Navy SEAL defendant undergoing a court martial for war crimes - describing it as a mercy killing.

Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott, a SEAL team medic, said under cross-examination by the defense in a courtroom at the San Diego Naval Base that he killed the fighter by asphyxiation, after he saw Gallagher stab the victim with a knife.

Scott said he held his thumb over a breathing tube that had been inserted into the mouth of a fighter, who had a leg wound and collapsed lung following house-to-house fighting in the Iraqi city of Mosul in 2017.

The fighter had been captured by Iraqi forces and dumped on the ground at a base outside Mosul, the prosecution said in its opening statement on Monday.

If done right, this can create just enough confusion that prosecutors can't prove Eugene Jun 2019 #2
The medic was given full immunity prior to testifying. Quackers Jun 2019 #5

Apparently, this medic left out that one annoying detail: that he killed the prisoner.

A little omission like that might cause the immunity agreement to be voided.

I'm sure the prosecutor is considering his options.

or because he was asphyxiated?

Huh ... that kinda surprises me. I'd think they could discern, but I'm no doctor.

as a POW is not a war crime... because someone else actually stopped the dying man from bleeding out by closing the ventilator that was allowing him to linger.

So even if we take this medic at his word, the death of this guy was still caused by the direct actions of the SEAL in question.

to the military's codes of conduct and honor. Of course, their "heroic" actions will now enable the Orange Anus to recognize their "patriotism" and present them with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Fucking POS!

I was in the navy. I do not believe in MURDER. Both sailors should be sent to prison until they ROT for their crime of killing a man...........
