Another day, another shooting. It doesn't even make the national news any more.
Where have all the flowers gone?
When will we ever learn?

And, perhaps even worse, some scumbags stole the wheelchair ramp from a house with a kid with cerebral palsy.

Recently, a young nurse parked her car outside the hospital, and witnesses saw three young men walk up and open fire.
I can't believe this American carnage is not the top national outrage. Not enough is being done. Surely there must be a way to stop this.

(14,483 posts)from a time when most people were compassionate, empathetic and caring. There's always been a certain percentage that were psychopathic and caused trouble, but the majority tried hard to not harm their fellow-man.
The Great Depression and WW-2 for a time ingrained humility in us that lasted quite a time. I believe that's now mostly gone. Over the last 30 or so years, I've seen increasing isolationism, selfishness and caustic language and attitudes in our people.
The drift from that better time was slow and driven by rampant consumerism, violence on TV and in movies, and financial markets that demand more and more from working citizens. In other words, we're much closer to a dog-eat-dog life to survive.
I've thought a lot about this of late, especially having been raised by Depression-era parents in the country. Because of the ever increasing asset and income inequality that is disenfranchising working citizens and driving us toward servitude, I regret to say I see no long-term solutions. But, I'm now to damned old to come up with new ideas.

Where did America go? Did it get too frantic for people to care anymore?
Starting to think even MSNBC is disempowering the resistance by serving as a pressure relief valve while holding out hope of change. The First Democratic Debate 9 Days in the corner of the screen is whispering to me can I hope is I hope in the corner of the screen? We be getting a new president soon? Meanwhile the droning voices are talking nonstop every day about the madman in the office while the sane people in the country supposedly remain helpless and hope for the next election.

(9,878 posts)is the touch that distinguishes Philadelphia from any run-of-the-mill crime-ridden city. You can get shot anywhere, but very few places will steal a kid's wheelchair ramp.

Let's celebrate this.
Wait, it's not an unmitigated good? But where are the good guys with guns? Aren't they supposed to protect us? What? They don't show up as they're supposed to? Really? Why not?
What am I missing here?

(9,426 posts)there were stabbings in London, U.K. Dear leader wants the "incompetant loser Mayor" fired. He was elected by the Londoners, yet tRump feels free to call for his dismissal! tRump should turn his attention to what is going on in THIS country. I will never understand the fascination with guns in this country. So many lives lost to senseless violence. Hopefully there will be no retaliation shootings for this.

(3,171 posts)When I was a teenager, if you had a problem with someone that escalated to violence, it was sorted out with fists. You mixed it up, someone won and someone lost, and both people went home. Sure, they had some bruises and scrapes, but they went home.
I legit feel sorry for the kids growing up in today's world sometimes. For all the technological advances and new toys, they have it so much harder considering everything going on today. My biggest worry when I was a teenager was getting a car and the newest video game or CD. These poor kids today have to worry about being shot in their schools, climate change, etc. etc. etc.
