Source: BBC
Ukrainian comedian Volodymyr Zelensky has won a run-off election to become the country's next president by a landslide, exit polls suggest.

A comic actor with no experience in politics, who avoided taking any policy position at all. What a leap in the dark. OK, he can't be as bad a person as Trump, but who knows how he'll handle the job?

(22,957 posts)He was a presidential candidate and now he is president. I didn't notice Trump's name preceded by "TV reality show star" in every reference to him during the campaign.

(33,643 posts)Actually, is there any chance he's actually the President of Ukraine, right now?
Can we really rule it out?
If he peeled off his mask at the inauguration, would anyone be THAT surprised?

(21,714 posts)Desperation is bad counsel, and desperate voters sometimes reach for the most irreverent candidates, hoping that actually means something.
That said, All the Best to Mr. Zelensky. He's got his job cut out for him.

(6,410 posts)...Poroshenko was corrupt, however, if he just "treads water" it will be a success.
Desperation often leads to poor choices, Putin could very well be smiling again.
