Putin to U.S.: I'm ready for another Cuban Missile-style crisis if you want one

Source: Reuters

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is militarily ready for a Cuban Missile-style crisis if the United States wanted one and threatened to place hypersonic nuclear missiles on ships or submarines near U.S. territorial waters.

The Cuban Missile Crisis erupted in 1962 when Moscow responded to a U.S. missile deployment in Turkey by sending ballistic missiles to Cuba, sparking a standoff that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

More than five decades on, tensions are rising again over Russian fears that the United States might deploy intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe, as a landmark Cold War-era arms-control treaty unravels.

Putin's comments, made to Russian media late on Wednesday, follow his warning that Moscow will match any U.S. move to deploy new missiles closer to Russia by stationing its own missiles closer to the United States or by deploying faster missiles or both.

or should i say the real stories. There are so many huge things coming out about the unprecedented corruption that has invaded our country. There must be a massive, humanity-threatening disaster (other than the real one we face with the climate) that dumpster and pootey can pretend is happening. They'll undoubtedly have fat-boy kim play along with their scam as well.

Ever since it ended, the Right and military-industrial complex has looked back at the Cold War as the Golden Days. For the Right, it was the universal excuse for not funding social programs -- does anyone remember the "peace dividend" that was promised once the Cold War ended? Anybody seen it? Of course not -- the Repugs spent it all and more on tax cuts for the very rich and corporations.

For the MIC the Cold War was like a magic money tree. You can never have enough weapon systems. If they have ballistic missiles, you have to develop anti-ballistic missiles. The more aircraft carriers the better. (BTW, there are three Ford-class carriers in progress right now; wanna bet Fat Donnie wants his name on one of them?)

Missiles and ammo are great for the MIC because they destroy themselves as they are being used and need to be replaced.

The only thing the Right/MIC doesn't want to spend money on is the people who make the military work, especially once they leave the service. The Republicans quietly cancel one VA benefit after another, all the while waving the American flag and trumpeting how much they support our men and women in service.

Putin wants a Cold War, and Fat Donnie wants one because Putin tells him it would ensure he would go down in history as a great president. Dubya had the same fantasy -- all the great presidents are wartime presidents.

Everything old is new again.

Hence the cyber bullshit. Pooty can’t afford top-grade weapons. The Russian people sure as hell cant since the oligarchs stole everything of value.

When they develop fuel from potato vodka I’ll start worrying.

And he did similar things in Europe as well. He shut down the Internet in one country (can't remember which one now) and caused a two day power failure in Ukraine. Warnings, punishment, or sometimes just because he can.

Most are only in a few years. Most are poorly trained and equipped. Most are draftees. The top troops get all the money and perks, just like other dictatorships. But there are a LOT of them, and countires like Russia dont care about cannon fodder. Like China, North Korea, etc. When the Chinese attacked in Korea, troops had to pack snow on the weapons to keep them firing because they got so hot. Vietnamese used to charge in a similar way.
Our military doesnt work that way.

What are the chances the Russians (and Chinese, etc.) haven't smuggled in the parts to build hidden bombs in our major cities?

I would have if I were them.

Have we caught them all? Have we caught any?

Classified if we have, for sure.

Why the increased foreign crisis all of a sudden?

Very curious timing. tRump must have advance word that Mueller's probe or one of the other district courts is about to drop the hammer on Putin's overweight puppet and of course, now Putin knows too and is throwing a tantrum.
