UN says North Korea has asked for help on food shortages

Source: Associated Press

Updated 3:18 pm CST, Thursday, February 21, 2019

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations says North Korea's government has asked for help from international humanitarian groups to combat food shortages.

U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Thursday that food production figures provided by North Korea show "there is a food gap of about 1.4 million tons expected for 2019, and that's crops including rice, wheat, potato and soybeans."

Dujarric says the U.N. has "expressed and will continue to express our concern about the deteriorating food security situation" in North Korea.

He says the U.N. "at various levels" is consulting with the North Korean government "to further understand the impact of food security on the most vulnerable people, in order to take early action to address the humanitarian needs."

Even the troops aren't being fed well.

A soldier who escaped was underfed and had worms.

I know of a bunch of near bankrupt American farmers with a Ton of soybeans, THX TO TRUMPS TARIFFS ON CHINA and china suddenly buying all their soybeans from RUSSIA........instead of the U.S. Farmers.............

This is classic: So the U.S. Gov't might buy these Soy Beans from the U.S. Farmers that can't sell them due to Trump's embargo/tariffs?
Then, they send them for free to one of our biggest enemies, North Korea......

This just keeps getting better and better every day that Trump and the Corrupt Republican Senators stay in office.............

I feel bad for their people but generations beyond them will continue to suffer this way if we continue to placate to a hostage taker. I can't believe North Korea has been allowed to survive this long. Let me guess: fucking Russian fascists.

12. At this point, no one in the region really wants a united Korea

China doesn't want refugees flooding its borders, South Korea doesn't want to spend the trillions of dollars needed to fix North Korea, not to mention the massive social disruption it will cause, and Japan still is very wary of Koreans with animosity dating back hundreds of years. It's a massive clusterfuck, right now the easiest and simplest way to deal with the problem is to simply keep propping up Kim's regime and let them deal with their internal problems.

But as in 1945, no one really asks them about it.

It's the surrounding powers that don't want it.
