GOP Sen. Collins says she'll back resolution to block Trump's emergency declaration

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAIN CARNEY - 02/20/19 05:20 PM EST

GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine) on Wednesday said she would support a resolution to block President Trump's emergency declaration to construct the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Collins, speaking to reporters in Maine, said she would support a resolution of disapproval that was focused on the emergency declaration, which she has described as being of "dubious constitutionality."

“If it’s a ‘clean’ disapproval resolution, I will support it,” she told reporters, according to The Associated Press.

Collins's comments make her the first Republican senator to say they will back legislation to block Trump's executive action. A spokeswoman for Collins didn't immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment.

vote on the side of right and been betrayed at the last minute.

To my mind, she's worse than someone like McConnell - at least with the Turtle you know he's just going to say 'f u' and move on with his right wing destruction of all we hold dear.

Collins just wiggles in the wind, kind of like a sock.

If he gets to falsely declare an emergency to pick and choose funding from where he wants to rob it from , he'll start doing this on many issues he wants to promote without any Congressional approval from them at all. And maybe she's scared he'll claim next martial law next whenever he wants to bypass all of Congress to then get absolute power of OUR government , and eliminating them . She should be scared of this, because that's exactly how he operates finding loopholes to get an advantage over them with to do as he pleases with no oversite, or Congress to worry about.

She can vote against this because she knows that Squi's drinking buddy "Boof", that she helped shepherd onto the Supreme Court, will rule in the orange piece of shits favor.

Dear Susan, with all due respect, "go fuck yourself sideways with a hard-cover, First Edition copy of Atlas Shrugged, you worthless piece of amphibian shit"

who publicly stated they were against Trump declaring a national emergency. Collins is now on record. Why don't we go after the other 4 or 5? How about Marco Rubio? He was against it, how is he going to vote?

How are we ever going to get enough Republicans to override a Trump veto?

veto the budget and do another Repugnant owned shutdown that would force the turtle into hiding again.
However he will be working behind the scenes to get enough Repugnants on board like Collins to kill it because if it stands the next Democrat in office can then declare national emergencies on a host of things from healthcare to guns.

What about the House, can it override a Trump veto? The Freedumb caucus always votes the opposite way of Democrats.

I'm all for getting Republicans on record but there is a bad side to this. There are a bunch of law suits out there opposing Trump's emergency declaration and they are expected to reach the Supreme Court. What if the SC decides not to hear the case but to leave the decision up to Congress?

Under very rare circumstances she does. Wasn't she one of the Republicans (with McCain casting the deciding vote) who kept all of Obamacare from being repealed?

Mostly though I think she may vote to disapprove because she may already know that there are more than enough votes for the Senate to do so, but not enough to over ride a Trump veto. That's her style.
