Former Trump lawyer slams Mueller probe, maintains president will be cleared: 'Knock it off and get it done'
The veteran criminal defense attorney who headed President Donald Trump's legal team during a crucial stretch of the special counsel investigation believes the entire affair will end in silence from special counsel Robert Mueller, and called the massive two-year probe into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign a terrible waste of time.
I don't think there'll be a report, John Dowd told ABC News in a wide-ranging interview for the premiere episode of "The Investigation," a new podcast focused on the probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller. I will be shocked if anything regarding the president is made public, other than We're done.
..
I know exactly what [Mueller] has, Dowd said. I know exactly what every witness said, what every document said. I know exactly what he asked. And I know what the conclusion or the result is, he said, describing the sweeping efforts by Trumps legal team to assess the case by speaking to dozens of witnesses. Based on that knowledge, Dowd said, there's no basis. There's no exposure. It's been a terrible waste of time.
...
Dowd told ABC News that the president cooperated with the investigation, even producing communications with the White House Counsel that Mueller requested.

(1,220 posts)I'd think John Dowd, being a veteran attorney, would know firsthand how long some criminal cases take to prosecute.
Most good criminal defense attorneys are thankful for any delay, under most circumstances.
I guess it's getting too hot in the White House for Dowd. He's starting to sound like rudy ghouliani! Or one of trump's doctors! LOFL
Dowd is just another fool whose career will be burned to the ground for trying to defend the indefensible, our first total traitor in the White House, donald j trump.

The public has right to know what we have spent on 25 million on this investigation and got just back in fines, for criminal enterprise activity, 45 million so far, and you call yourself a "lawyer".........................maybe you should go back and see what Flynn is doing, Manafort, Gates, and others..........................
And you keep forgetting zippy that your former boss and his "family" ripped off the taxpayers of about, to the tune of 400 million in taxes.......................just in New York.......................

Spanish prosecutor Jose Grinda says Don Jr should be "very concerned" about wiretaps of his meetings w Putin crony Alexander Torshin (also NRA's contact in Russia). Grinda turned those wiretaps over to FBI.

(5,586 posts)He's not the lead lawyer now since Emmet Flood is, but as someone that was intimately involved for nearly 2 years on the investigation, I would think that Flood and his team are regularly consulting him.
