Nancy Pelosi says she won't rule out indictment, impeachment for Trump

Source: MSN

Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she wouldn't rule out President Trump being indicted while in office, describing the topic as "an open discussion."
During an exclusive interview with TODAY's Savannah Guthrie, the House Democratic leader said it's possible that special counsel Robert Mueller could seek an indictment against the sitting president, despite Justice Department guidelines against such action.
"I think that that is an open discussion. I think that is an open discussion in terms of the law," Pelosi said, on the eve of reclaiming her former title as speaker of the House. She will become the first lawmaker in recent history to hold that office twice when the 116th Congress convenes Thursday.

Even nothing is "Off the table" is a common gambling, casino metaphor. Trump's home turf.

To shake things up, new language will be used. Speaker Pelosi will have "an open discussion" on indictment and impeachment. No repeating GOP-speak and responding in-kind.

But your point is good.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi promised Wednesday that when her party takes over, the new majority will not attempt to remove President Bush from office, despite earlier pledges to the contrary from others in the caucus.

“I have said it before and I will say it again: Impeachment is off the table,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said during a news conference.

"We have to wait and see what happens with the Mueller report. We shouldn't be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn't avoid impeachment for a political reason. So we'll just have to see how it comes," she said.

When we're talking about obstruction or conspiring w/Russia, that is an appropriate answer at this time. We have to see what the Mueller investigation reports.

This is a revealing clip. Pelosi simultaneously signals to her left flank that she’s with them and leaving everything open to dicussion. At the same time, she’s signaling “let Mueller finish” and let’s not rush anything until then (push for impeachment, etc.). Balancing act.

The Clinton Justice Department said a President could not be indicted.

“a sitting President is immune from indictment as well as from further criminal process.”
