Jeff Flake Wont Rule Out 2020 Run: Somebody Needs To Challenge Trump
Like I said, I havent ruled it out, he said. Im a long way from there, but somebody needs to and I think that the country needs to be reminded of what it means to be conservative.

Outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) is leaving Congress in the coming days, but he isnt yet crossing a presidential run off his list of possibilities.
<snip>
Like I said, I havent ruled it out, Flake said. Im a long way from there, but somebody needs to and I think that the country needs to be reminded of what it means to be conservative, certainly on the Republican side, and what it means to be decent as well, because we need a lot more of that in our politics.
<snip>
Flake, who has had an openly tumultuous relationship with Trump, criticized him for blaming Democrats for the federal government shutdown, which has now entered its eighth day as Congress remains in a standoff over a spending bill including money to build a border wall.
Anytime you stand and say I own the shutdown, then you own it, he told Acosta, adding,Shutdown 101 tells you shift the blame if you can. And when the president immediately said, Ill take the blame, then hes got it.

(17,240 posts)FLAKE gave into Trump too often. He is scared to death of Trump. He could not even run again for senate in his own state!! His own state is against him. Flake is just another GOP whiner.

(9,426 posts)Susan Collins announcing her run. Both of them talked a good talk, then caved to tRump. Maybe the country will get lucky and Santorum, Christie or Gingrich will announce their candidacy? What we desperately need now is a Democratic president to clean up the gop mess, like they usually do.

(4,723 posts)They could call her 2020 election campaign "The Terribly Concerned Susan Collins Medicine Show" where we will all see her almost drop her handbag all the time and jack up the melodrama to 11. Maybe there is still a 1920s era movie theater pianist around to play that great "Perils of Pauline" type dramatic piano to accompany her. Now with 25% more diminished minor chords!

(32,112 posts)Jeffy, many of you have already shown us what it means to be conservative.
You wring your hands, say you're "concerned", mumble a few words about how whatever Trump said or did is "wrong" ....
Then you slink back under your rocks and vote yes on his whole Fascist agenda.
No, thanks, Pal

I hope he and Collins are just a rare footnote in history books.

Trump (lying): Blah-blah-blah.
Flake: I agree with the president.
Flake answers the question first:
Flake: I think blah-blah-blah, and President Trump has failed to do so.
Trump (lying): Actually, my administration has blah-blah-blah. <Insults Flake>
Flake: I would like to retract my previous statement and say I wholeheartedly support the president.

(37,648 posts)He's unpopular with his own party, and he sure as heck won't get Democratic or the majority of the Independent vote.
It's true he was one of the few who spoke out against Trump, which cost him dearly. But when push came to shove, he voted for Trump backed bills.
The vote to send the vote for Kavanaugh to the full Senate killed any kind of chance he had. He can't win with only Republicans, and that killed any hope to get any other vote.
